It shouold be doable if it fits, but it's going to cost a pretty penny.

mmm whats a vrx engine exactly?? are u talking about a 3rg gen engine? cos there is only a 3lt v6 and 3.5lt v6. now they were in every model eg. exec, verada, vrx, ralliart etc etc.
now if u are talking about then then nope it won't work cos 1st gens engines and gearboxes rotate the opposite direction than the 3rd gens.
a more likely the 2nd gen 3lt v6 would be easyer to do. still would need to have the car re-engineered for 4cly - 6cly change id say
or there is the Vr4's dohc is able to be done ( a member here has one in there tn wagon). still would have to get an engineers cetficate i think.
now really anything is possible with enough time and money.
but do u really want a fire breathing fwd car. don't get me wrong i love my magna but even if it had 300 hp ud never get all that power to the ground and be forever spining the front wheels:nuts:
me personally don't see the point. go buy a farm hack for $50 and go bush bashing till that wheels fall off:D .

geez thats optimistic, can tell you havent been here long, best to do a search and see if its possible before making a claim like that, especially if its 2 years later

The engine bay in a first gen physically isn't big enough to fit a v6 in it unfortunately without significant modification. I mean the intake from a second gen 4 cyl won't even fit in a first gen! The second gen engine bay is quite a bit larger.

be cheaper to buy a VRX or slap some mad 4cyl turbo into i reckon. ring a few mechanics and engineers and see how you go.

Or just do it the simple way and import the V6 1st gen from NZ :D

we already have them. we call them 2nd gens. in NZ there 1st gens are our 2nd gens tr\ts. thats why they had a 3lt v6 cos its the same as our tr\ts maggies.
so dora did u mean VR4 dohc motor or a vrx 3rd gen . cause the vrx's arn't all that special (engine wise). even ralliarts wern't alot different and there was only 500 of them made.

Pretty sure there was a 1st gen magna but was called a v3000 which had the 3.0L SOHC that's in the 2nd gens, but was in the shape of a 1st gen.
I would put a turbo V4 motor in, would be the best fit and would be a damn quick car.
And yeh would be cheaper to buy a vrx lol.

I have seen a V6 Elante on a NZ web site called a V3000. The front end looks a little diff to the aus versions though.
EDIT: didnt see the above post.
EDIT2: rofl!!! they use the same ****ty air box filter with that poxy plastic thing that goes around the battery like ours lol

yea my comment about ur post was completly wrong. if u look at my above post u'll see . it was an aussie first gen that got sent to NZ minuss the engine and gearbox. so they put in the 3lt v6 gave it new tail lights and front grille assembly and there u have the V3000 first gen. 2nd gen v3000 was our tr\ts 2nd gen with a few small differences.
here's another interseting site. just scroll down past the lancer part to the v6 section. good read anyway

I'm always right lmao.
Anyway yeh it's the same motor that's in the 2nd gens. But by the time you import one, you could probably have just bought a 2nd gen v6.
I wonder though, seen as the SOHC fits, imagine a 1st gen magna DOHC v6 . Would be pretty quick!
Doubt there'd be enough room for the TT version, looks like there's barely enough room for the SOHC in there.

Do you think that the bodies are the same though ? could you just import the x member and what else you need to do the conversion ?
You might be able to get a 2nd gen v6 for cheaper, but a v6 1st gen would be cooler

It sure would. Here's another one.

I hate the grille - Yuck! Still, it should be a trivial matter to swap the front panel and grille from an Aussie TM, TN or TP.
Damn, we're going to have to start being nice to those Kiwis!

I remember seeing a V3000 being used by the NZ Traffic Dept as a highway patrol car, don't how many they had, looked good in black & white. It was a 5speed manual, that was down south in Otago
