Dont know if its my head unit or what, but sometimes when i crank it fairly loud, the head unit goes dim in time to the music then just cuts out. Like everything turns off, head unit goes off then just comes back on. Only does it when ive got it pretty loud. Very annoying.
Any ideas?

What system are you running, any subs/amps etc?
It looks like your head unit is losing voltage, and when it get's to a certain level it'll just simply shut off because there's not enough there to keep it running.
So you need to find out what's causing the voltage to drop, it's usually dodgy wiring or not enough wiring (eg. power/ground wire to your amp is too thin to handle the amount of power it needs).
What model magna do you own?

ok its a TJ II exec, running kenwood head unit (3 months old), pioneer 6inchs, response 6x9's, response 400W amp with 10" pioneer sub.
mates did the instalation, and not dodgy. like im talking connecters and stuff, and soldier and tape, not just twist and tape.
do i need a capacitor?

oh another thing, i do think it has got to do with how much power the car is using, caus it only usually happens at night (all lights on), and it happened twice the other day when i was winding the windows down and back up again with the interior light on...but it still does it just when cruising somethimes

your battery may need replacing soon
yes i would upgrade the earth on the HU, somewhere on the chassis (sand back a little for good contact)

earth wire should be earthed to the chasis and not to the stock earth wire.
stock power wire should be fine.
What guage power wire are you running for your amp?
Don't get a capacitor, it just hides the problem.

8 guage power cable for amp
ok yeah that sounds good, well its due for a service so ill get a new battery and after that pull my head unit out and upgrade the earth position.

Possibly an alternator, how long has the head unit been like this?
You can take your car to autobarn and they'll do a battery + alternator test for free. That'll rule them out quickly or pick up the problem.

They will do it for free, they have signs up in the battery section. They did one on my TR and it found the alternator wasn't charging properly (should be around the 14.4v mark, was only at 13.4v) and then a week later the alternator died completely. will soon tell you if it's on it's way out if the voltage is less than 14v.

Oh ok, just realised it is autopro now anyway, but ill get work to do it when they service it next week anyway.
Thanks guys
