I'm going to install an amp on the weekend and just wanted to know if the stock front speaker wiring is ok to handle around 70wrms. I don't really want to go through the trouble of running new cables into the doors.
Cheers.

i would upgrade the wiring in the doors to something much better than the stock wiring
its up to you you can use the stock wiring if you want to
its only there to send a signal

I have 60wrms splits running off the stock speaker wire and it runs fine.

Is there really anything to be gained from a bigger guage wire for this amount of power?

If the speaker isn't being fed enough power due to the wire being restrictive, you could burn out the wire and the speaker will most likely distort. I'm not sure what guage wire you'd need, but the stock wire is pretty thick. The speaker wire i got given with my 60wrms splits was actually thinner than the stock wires.

i ran some 22ga (i think maybe thicker) speaker wire in my mates car
made a fair bit of difference
one of THE best sound quality cars in australia, runs stock 24ga wiring in his car.. doesnt that show something?
unless your running some crazy powered front speakers, then its all in your head that it sounds better. of course you cant convince the people that run 12ga to their speakers that :S
hell i run 16ga to a sub getting 2000W RMS, i dont see any losses :)
so yea, youll be more than fine running the stock wiring :)

I ran new speaker cable as I thought it'd be better than running the stock cable from the dash to the amp. That was before I discovered what a major PITA it was to get new cable through.

I ran new cable. But the stock will be fine. If i ever have to do another 3rd gen install i wont run new cable because its painfully difficult.

Yeh I spoke with a bloke from Northfield Car Sound, he reckons over short distances it's no problem. Over long distances it starts to lose power.

The signal can not be modified in any way, the wire is there to transfer current and potential.
What can happen is that with long runs of thin cable you lose signal. This just means you get a little less volume for output voltage.
