Howdy
Sorry if these questions have been asked and answered elsewhere, i've done some searches but haven't been able to find what i'm looking for (for the most part). Al questions relate to a TJ series 2 Magna Advance:
1) Is it possible to reprogram the keyless entry system so that all 4 doors unlock on the first press of the remote, rather than just the driver door then the rest on a second press?
2) I'd like to supplement the factory alarm with at least an audible arm/disarm chirp/beep. Does something like this exist and where would I get it (in SA)?
3) I bought an orbital polisher from Super Cheap Auto but haven't used it as yet. What's a good polish to use with an orbital polisher?
4) Can anyone recommend a driving/fog light that fits in the existing spaces in the front grille? What do people use for the switch? All the driving light kits i've seen come with a really ugly and chunky switch. Can the indicator stalk from a Verada (which has a switch for these lights) be swapped in to the Magna?
Thanks in advance.

1) No.
2) You'd have to go an aftermarket alarm system like Viper or something. Any car audio place will sell them.
3) Meguires Gold Class, Turtle Wax Ice.
4) Narva or the like (genuine ones are near $1000) Try your local Supercheap Auto, they might come with a switch, if not ask them. Don't know on the Verada indicator stalk bit.
Hope this has helped. :D

Gday Steve,
I assume by 'driving/fog light that fits in the existing spaces in the front grille' you are referring to the retangular foglight positions either side of the number plate in the lower bumper?
Well if you are, I have these driving/foglights installed there at the moment and for about $25 I think they are great value and light up well. I have seen them at the 'Warehouse' and 'Big W'.
http://www.aunger.com.au/hidden/item_3fb84edc022b8379255747.html
They come with all wiring (more than enough to keep as spare for other jobs), switch, globes, brackets and screws. I have had these in my car for a good 2 years I'd say without using a relay and have had no problems at all.
I self tapped the brackets into the top of the existing black foglight cover. With the switch, you should find a hole in that plastic shrouding underneath the steering wheel close to the hood release. The switch was the perfect shape to hot glue there with the 3 wires going through the hole behind the shrouding. When the foglights are on, the switch lights up red and so even though it is hidden from view, the red light shining down can tell you whether they are on. From there, I ran one wire to the ciggy lighter for power, one to under the hood release to a bolt for earth and the other through the drivers door jam, up, inside and over the wheel arch to the lights.
If you are concerned about the oval shape not matching the retangular foglight recepticle, you could do what I did and lightly spray them with 'Nightshades' so they blend in better. However, at night, I can't tell the difference at all compared to a Magna fitted with the factory foglights.
Anyway, some ideas there for you.

1. This is a safety factor that most cars have fitted now, So I would say No.
2. As Diciple said, Viper would be your best bet, bit of dollars involved for top model but last I heard they were quarenteed for against a "break-in"
3. I had bought polisher from Super cheap, was more trouble then it was bloody worth, prob had a lemon... The hand has the job now
4. The "Sports" is also on the stalk, I wouldn't think it would be too much trouble getting it fitted, althou a simple toggle will do. Last time I used my fogs, I got booked so they are diconnected now!

Yes.
I installed them not to assist vision in fog but for the look at night time. The nightshades allows me to have the foglight appearance without the brightness to dazzle other motorists. I guess they are more akin to a parking lamp in brightness. The nightshades provides a light similar colour to looking through a coca cola bottle held up at the sun. I like it.

I thought it was illegal in NSW to drive with your foggies on when it's not foggy? some of my mates have been pulled over for that while on the road to, and in, Bathurst.
cheers,

I would assume that although packaged as a 'driving' light, mounting them in the foglight recepticle means that they could be illegal. I have not been pulled over or the issue raised at RBT stops but I guess that could be attributed to the nightshades making it difficult for them to be idenitified as foglights because one would usually assume a foglight would be very bright.

Under the Road Transport (Safety and Traffic Management) Regulation 1999:
Any light below your normal head lights that can be operated using low beam or more is considered to be a 'fog lamp'. It doesn't matter how bright they are. Offence of 'Unlawful use of foglamps' - will cost you $77 in NSW (Use of rear fog lamp is a different offence but same fine).
Any light at the level or above your normal head lights is considered to be a 'driving light'. Offence of 'Unlawful use of additional headlamps' - and again will cost you $77 in NSW.
The use of those stupid 'rice' lights in your wipers, the use of blue or other colour (except white) lights in your parker lights or the use of neon lights (outside OR inside) while driving is considered a light likely to dazzle, 'Use/allow use of light on/in vehicle likely/to dazzle' - will agains cost you $77.
If these haven't been installed properly then expect a defect notice
At the end of the day, it's really just not worth driving with all this stuff turned on. Use them when they are intended to be used (like in fog or at displays) and you won't go wrong.

Fog lights are only allowed to be turned on when it's foggy, driving lights are only allowed to be on with your high beams.
So either way, if you've just got a fog/driving light on for the hell of it, it's breaking the rules.

What we need is a rectangular light that has half foglamp and half driving light :)

They are available, but the problem is that you can't mount it below and above you normal headlights at the same time - so from a 'legal' point of view it's still going to be a foglamp or a driving light depending on where it is mounted, and from a practicality point of view it just wouldn't work as well (fog lights need to be as low to the ground as possible to be effecive, where driving lights need to be as high as possible to be effective!)

if your talking about fog lights then they are illegal to have them on unless driving through fog
i nearly got done about a month ago for having them on
and ive had them on for the past 9months before that
yes i have driven past cops and i get evil stares
they told me that they are illegal because drives get confused of cars having 2 set of headlights on

I find the trouble with people putting in aftermarket "fog lights" is that they are set up as driving lights and are too bloody bright for oncoming traffic.
Fog lights should point to the ground close to the front of the car so line markings are visible and light is reflected up from the road through the fog. Driving lights point straight ahead and just cause a white-out in fog so you can't see where you are going.
I'm all for true fog lights for their functionality and for their appearance but if you get done for having them on when you shouldn't or they're too bright for oncoming traffic then three cheers for the policeman who books you. :tantrum:

I have had "original" fogs in my car since day one, this particular night I got written up for, was for having them on whilst in rain, there was no way in living hell they were used for driving lights... I just think he didnt get one away the night before...
