just wondering if anyone has swapped the factory horn for something with a bit more balls. Its hard to go off at people who cut you off when your horn doesn't command much respect

I too have noticed this.. ... but then when I thought about it, I don't know that I've ever heard a horn, apart from klaxton style after market ones or trucks, that did really have any balls..

you guys can say that again. when i got my car the first time, i was like 'what the f' when i heard the weener's horn. i am pretty sure the US diamante sounds nothing like this. anyway i got myself a pair of italian-made fiaam horns (and for only US$20) from the states and they sound like merc or bmw horns. nothing fancy. just effective.
the electrical connection is peanuts but mounting needs a bit of work. in the end just brought it down to an auto-electrician and they got it mounted just between the radiator and front-grill for $50.

if i don't remember wrongly, it's right at the left side of the bay. can't miss it. looks like a big tweeter black in colour about the size of a coaster.

The EL/AU/BA Falcons have nice beefy horns and probably have a similar mounting bracket, and you'd be able to pick them up easily at any wrecker. They're not exactly airhorns, but with airhorns you gotta run a switch (because it won't pass for rego if it's your main horn) and mount the compressor etc. I've been thinking about grabbing a pair of Falcon horns from a wrecker and doing a straight swap. Probably be a cheap mod, and it would be quite satisfying.

with my kr verada (same as ts) they have a single horn behind the front bumper, but when you take the bumper off there is a support on the right waiting for another horn to be hooked up. just get another magna one and bolt it up, and wire it in.
the jap diamantes front cut that I got came with twin horns, so i'm running twin diamante horns at the moment, still got twin air horns sitting here waiting to go on.

Guys,
Those of you who have swapped your horn.. on the factory horn theres just 1 plug.. my new horn needs 2.. is there an adaptor or something i can get? or is there another one hidden somewhere?

Wouldn't there be 2 plugs on the factory horn as well?
There was on mine (I know its a TR, but still...)
Should be a ground & a +12V, because those now go into my air horns (one of the first things I did when I got the car, twin air horns...much nicer :D)

Maybe the factory horn used the mount as it's connection to ground. I guess any horn is gonna need two connection points. Maybe you need to find out which terminal is which on your new horn and then create a wire going to ground, and then the exisiting wire is your positive connector?
Just speculation, check it out first.

Wouldn't be hard to find out what the wire does...
Use a multimeter & get someone to press the horn, your either gonna get 12v or a ground...

yeah thats what i figured, just got back from looking for something to wire the ground, just going to ground it under the mounting bracket on the engine bay.

success guys.. grounded to the engine bay.. the factory horn would have been ground through the support... only problem is its still just as shit as the old one... its twice as big though... damn you supercheap!

I had a '92 NC Fairlane with FIAMM twin horns, nice and loud. Try a wreckers or rubbish dump for a Fairlane or Fairmont. They hook straight onto the existing connections.

Can't remember on the ei and magna models however the XI model of the KR/S series has 2 horns, one under each guard in the corner.
I have also replaced mine with the italian Fiamm horns from the BMW series.
The wiring is dead easy, oneis earth the other is power. Magna's earth through the pins, not the horn body. TE onwards may have changes, I am not sure as I ahve never bothered looking
