For anyone with basic electronic knowledge, this looks like a worthwhile modification. I found the article by accident while looking for something else.

So technically not useless then? People still own first and second generation magnas, you know :)

Nice little mod, I wouldn't mind doing it to mine...

The sports mode auto was introduced in the last of the 1st Gens. I'm not sure whether it was in the TM but I have a TP wagon and sedan which both have it. It was also in the 2nd Gens.

Ahh k... yeh i'm pretty sure the TP's have a different auto to the TM & TN.

3rd gens should also have a 'sports' mode which is throttle activated, although you may not know when its turned on.

And that actually works? lol

the early VL Falcadores and skylines already have this system standard.

each revision of the gen1 had a different auto box, even differences in sedan and wagons.

KM177-6 was the transmission with two shifts patterns.

Better Mod (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40368), when i get it done... been busy with other things to care... such as cams, carbies, exhausts... :D no need for a shift kit for this Auto carby gen1 to own a VN/VP.

also i'm only designing this for carburetted models and only the km175-1 transmission, with revisions for other models later if i feel like it.

Yeah I've been thinking of trying to either retune or make up a new transmission for the 2nd gen. I'd prefer to do a retune on it but not sure if it'll work. It's still just an idea, I know that they use the load and speed inputs to determine the gear from a 2D map so it isn't massively complex. I'd have 2 shift patterns controlled by the power button, having the standard one with a similar shift pattern to the standard but holding/dropping into 2nd a fair bit earlier. The power one would be have a fair different map with much quicker shift times.

Also I've been thinking of integrating a tiptronic part into it. ie in 2nd it will stay in 2nd, no matter how much you mash the throttle. This could be done fairly easlily to any basic transmission by changing the load/speed input to a constant value, making the tranny stay in that gear. Although you'd want to make it so that the values release the lock up clutch.
