Hello people,

I'm looking to sound proof my car but only on doors not including boot.

Does anyone know where could i do that in Melbourne and approximately how much it would be?

Thank You

there is some stuff on ebay and i think one of the sponsors sells it on here have seen that you can sound proof your car with i think its called dyno mat, or somethink like that, it would be worth it, i'm thinking about doing it my self or insted buy a ralliart insted and do it up so yea

Seriously, if you can use a paint roller you will be able to do it yourself.
Good brands of sound deadening are Dynamat, Stinger Expert Roadkill (I have this) and G-Spot.
Then buy a mini roller (I bought a Stinger one for about $15 I think), peel the back off the deadening and stick it on like a big bit of sticky tape, and roll it flat. Very easy.

I did only my doors the other week using a spray. Cost $9.95 per can and I needed one can per door. I just sprayed the back of the door trim (taped up the holes) and left it in the sun for a few hours. The result was a suprising reduction in road noise.

I should be spraying the inside of the door skins this weekend and expect even more noise reduction and a solid thunk when closing them.

All in all, I suggest doing it yourself and it should only cost you about $80.00 using a spray and a few hours time.

Edit: If you are looking to insulate against rattles for a pumping stereo then the spray will probably be inadequate though. Better off with those sound deadening sheets/mats.

Yeah the spray is good for door trims, but not for door panels. The deadening sheets are much heavier for the same volume, and make much less mess.

Any idea which place does this kind of thing in Melbourne? i prefer not to use spray can for this coz it can get messy.

Any car audio place can do it for you. I use Tonkins over here (SA) for any stuff I dont have the time to do (I did my deadening myself).
Don't go to JB HIFI or Strathfield or any shops like that, only go to a dedicated car audio place.

Cheers

Thanks, I might try autobarn since they sell stuff like that.

autobarn are generally considered as bad a JB Hifi (unqualified people in a large part), strathies has good stores and bad stores, just a matter of luck on that one but i personally wouldnt use them unless i knew the installer.

unless you like doing things DIY and have a LOT of patience and dont mind reading right up on it, i wouldnt do it yourself. people say its 'easy', but half of those people will also find that their deadening is peeling off 2 summers from now :P took me a good 8 hours and 2/3 of is Dynamat bulk pack to do my front doors alone, VERY worth it, but it was very frustrating. especially the claning part.. that took around 4 hours of the process.

Its sound deadening, ie removing rattles and resonances.

Sheet deadener is your best bet, focus on the front doors and boot firstly...

Stinger roadkill, dynamat extreme etc...

Phatt Audio Concepts Braeside
Hectik car audio
Stylyn boronia/bentleigh
Freeway Car Audio

in that order is your best bet.

Peace

Tim
