View Full Version : Ccfl Angel Eyes
After having these on for some time and reading all the dremel - how to make your own
Angel eyes tutorials and threads i thought I'd post this info on CCFL Kits. I purchased a CCFL
angel eye kit designed for bmw's and of course guess what- they fit the Verada parabolic
lenses if fitted and inset on the reflector edge- they sit snug and dont hamper beam projection- These kits have the added factor of plug and play- and that the CCFL tubes are
so bright they are easily visible day and night- No hours of dremel play involved.
26593
This pic was taken midday, and you can clearly see the illumination. I have read quite a few
threads and seen pics where one angel eye has been done on both sides- these kits come with the 4 rings- and transformers- ready to go. To fit these you will have to heat the parabolics to separate the lens to install. A fun mod with immediate visual appeal. And no
they dont come in colors- they are white-:D
This mod has been done for ages- the pic was to show daylight illumination- the post is to illuminate to any member searching on Angel eyes that there isnt just the home made approach to angel eyes available and as such- it isnt intended as an opinion sought thread.
Its information for any member who wants to do this mod- dont post your opinion-
All questions will be answered.

Hey doug do u know if u have to buy all four or is their a kit with just 2?
cheers

Exactly, lets keep this on topic, as said above why comment on something that has nothing to do with the thread itself!! if he said in his original post *oh im making angel eyes for members and plz bag my car while posting* then it would be ok but he didnt, so either comment on the angel eyes or dont comment at all!!
Anyways on topic, BEHR do you think the angel eyes could be fitted to standard headlights, im sure you could considering they just curl around the globe correct??
These rings sit on the parabolic reflector edge, are three quarter circular and have a straight section, they are inflexible- unlike the led ones as they use flourescent tubing and
the slightest bending can crack them- so its a case of make the reflector to match the ring,
I had to notch out two sections at left and right of the reflector to ensure the rings stayed put and didnt move over time- the ring is held in place with the front black section of the parabolic to ensure no movement- not having tried the standard headlight I am unsure.
Hope that helps

Kudos on the mod, looks good. I thought that the E36's would fit, I use parts from these headlights for the parabolics. The reflectors are exactly the same size. Except far, far better beam pattern.

can we get a night shot?!
was the hardest part seperating the lense?
M4DDOG

*Vote #1 for a night shot!*
Something i might consider looking into when i get paras.
What about legalities? When should they come on? With parkers? headlights?
Cheers,
Leigh.
26594 heres a pic of the kit, ring shape and transformer. The hardest part was just seperating the lens and if you follow the standard- heat them in the oven
you will not have a problem separating the lens. As far as legalities they are made for BMW cars and dont hinder the lens pattern or beam -Night shots will be posted tnite- I have them wired to come on with the parkers and hence they are also on with the headlights-
Thanks guys

Hi BEHR, noticed you have mirror lights as well, where/how did you get those?
This was a mod I did before even an AMC member and just after I bought the car- I was
annoyed on the Verada having such a level of inclusions like a merc or beamer or since even a honda. It was a modification to the stock mirror, involved cutting the housing, after buying
a replacement indicator set for a Lexus rx and then making them to fit the housing- be waterproof and work. A new lens had to be made and they took about 2 days work to
fashion- they are flush and recessed, Led amber and work great. Ther is no kit anywhere to
do this currently- and if asked to do it Id say no way- to long to do again. they are wired to
the side markers hence the wiring isnt hard its the fitment and then making sure the aftermarket ones fit in with the motorised mirror mech. Hope that helps

The angle eyes were replacements for standard parker lights so yes, when the headlights
are on, it drowns out the angle lights just like it drowns out the parker lights.

i THINK you just re heat them in the oven so the glue melts and then you stick it back together.

The CCFL angel eyes are at least ten times brighter than standard LED type Arrangements-
Dont blend into the headlight beam and you could even be mistaken for thinking the headlights are on they are that Bright- Only the parker switch is on and the verada has
seperate parkers which I have changed to green downward LEDs
Never use a sealant on your headlights they will reseal when reheated to close them after install. Sealants discharge gases etc which will discolor your lense if used - as the headlights heat. As an aside CCFL dont give off any heat whatsoever hence Cold Cathode Flourescent Lighting.

Ovals there are 3 quarter styles in the US for Acura, etc but unsure if they would fit-
the easiest way is to do a search on demon eyes in the US ebay markets.

Also, those mirrors are cool and as Chisholm said, practrical, functional and originanal (well on a Magna)

I have seen kits for the side mirrors. Maybe not as fancy as this but looks similiar and easier to install with wiring provided.
Angel eyes look great however, I personally feel that is too much hassle to change it. It looks nice though.

From looking at the original picture that BEHR posted, it looks like the angel eye kit sits recessed into the para's, rather than on the outer edge.
This is what is making it look like the whole lights are illuminated at night, because the light is bouncing off the reflecting plate inside the para's.
Nevertheless, I still think that it looks pretty good.
BTW, Kick-butt job on the mirror indicators.

The wiring for the mirror indicator is paired into the side marker indicators so there is only a few feet of wiring.

yes the Angel eyes are recessed and sit in the middle, basically on the edge of the inner reflector- they are distinctive and the rings are easily made out- its just hellish trying to
get a clear pic of the ring as the flash bounces off the lens and the reflector.
thanks for your interest.

would it be possiable to put like an extar resistor or sumting so that the angel eyes arnt that bright so you can notice the circle better? kinda like the BMW's its not that bright mut still looks kool and you can see it clearly
Did this to a new set of one piece acrylic parabolics today- pic of the notches requires to
seat the ring in place and a clearer after pic

The wiring is paired into the parker line- on left and right sides- the kit has detachable plugs
like your headlights do- The headlights are required to be heated in an oven - I do it at 160
for 7 min on a towel - the oven door wont close- dont try to make the one piece fit
just fold a large towel from the oven door up to the top of the oven to make a heat canopy-
no part of the head light should touch metal- or it will melt. Heath Young has more detailed
instructions under his headlamp faq-
Using a dremel tool with grinder disc cut into the separated reflector as shown in the pic-
lay the ring into place- tucking the wiring around the back of the reflector and then take both wiring section out the headlight back plug section- replace rubber ring and screw
ring- place front section of headlamp back in place and reheat- then replace metal clips
and allow to cool- then they are ready to go-
Understandably if you are not mechanically minded or confident the thought of placing
such expensive items in the oven will make your skin crawl- However, fear is meant to
be overcome, be it in the form of DIY or even having it done by another who is skilled-
AND NO- I am not putting my hand up to do these. First step is buying the kit,
decide if you want to pay 150 bucks then take it from there.:D

Nice piccies, they actually don't look all that bad! Intensity isn't over the top either, some CCFL ones are very very bright.
Might be an ideal way to add some parkers to the HID conversion I am working on. I was looking at real BMW angel eyes, but they are pretty big - they also mean you have long optic fibres to run up to a light box etc as well. Far simpler and neater.
Cheers

Advantage of owning a Verada. I don't "need" to do this for a HID conversion. But what the hell, I still would do it. Just not on the wagon, wife's car now.

Ah i see, in that case your pictures make sense. I was wondering why u had the foggies turned on when taking those pictures! Just a bit too bright!
What made you re-wire it to the foggies? Did you have to drill any holes for the wiring? How did you make sure the CCFLs stays in position?
I've a spare broken parra that I might try an experiment on.
