Hey guys. I've been hearing stories all over the place that 2 or 3 other companies other than RPW are developing inexpensive (sub-$2500), low boost, easily installing single turbo systems for '96-and higher (new shape) models. Anyone want to provide an insight into these rumours? Oh and sorry - I just HAD to add a poll. :D

I've heard this also. I've also been speaking to a number of the guys from Cypher Industries (Perth) and they have started looking into a single turbo system for under 4 grand bolt up and burn away.
They are still seeing whether the project is feasible and only time will tell. Fingers crossed on this one :D
A turbo system for under 2500 would be a big ask... I don't think its possible unless everything was second hand and the manifolds were cast. Still if someone manages to pull it off I salute them! :D

They have them for alot of other makes and models of car, so why not the magna, $4500 sounds about right to me, as that is what most kits go for these days.

I agree, really while some thought must be put into it... it still isn't rocket science. The main problem with developing a turbo kit is manufacturing the manifolds and dump pipe etc. Once you get that right its all very basic. Well thats my opinion anyway... im sure there is alot more that goes into it but from the conversions i've seen its dead basic.
The key to a good system is planning...

I have an ad in fast fours that has many kits for cars, like the suzuki swift and rav4, they are complete turbo bolt on kits, drive away, for no more then $4500, and the pro performance kits are $6500, with these you get a bigger turbo.
So why does it cost so much for a Magna turbo conversion???
I mean there would be obvious sales right here on Aussiemagna alone, you could guarentee profits easily.
And like Blake said, "it is'nt rocket science".

The problem is the 6 cylinders are in a V config, so you basically need twice the manifold work.
Its not impossible, just requires a little more thinking.
I've decided to give AM a last bash as a small business as i finally have the time to do it right, so one of the projects this year will be a cheap single turbo kit...
Will let you all know how I go :D

Hey fellas if anyone was to make a single turbo bolt on kit for the magnas. I would buy one up straight away, so if anyone hears of one let us know

The single turbo kits are on our list for next year to be completed but the thing is to be honest cheap and turbo and magna do not go all together.
I can do a very cheap kit with a single TD04 turbo for around 4500 no problems. I am not sure what you are going to use for a computer and boost would be maxed out at 7 psi with a loss of top end but it would be a cheap system.
We will look at options but as long as we use a Garret GT-28 turbo system, even a single one by the time its fitted properly without any internal modifications and with a proper fueling system including injectors, fuel pump, FPR unit, computer you are always going to look at a $6500 / $7500.00 system on the car.
Even using a 2nd hand turbo woudl only drop the price around $600.00 approx with obvious loss of performance.
The motto being guy's cheap turbo kits can do a dime a dozen. But as we have already proven, through experience the magna engines are very sucectible to detonation etc and if you do it cheap, I can garauntee that you will damage the engine.
RPW is the only succesful company in Australia to effectivly use forced induction on a magna in australia- and plenty have tried - I know of 3 other attempts in WA where they have all blown engines up.
I welcome competition - but at the end of the day if I never sell another turbo kit i have no worries because If I can't do it properly with no problems and no comebacks from customers, then I won't do it at all. Simple as that.
And as for other companies manafacturing the kits (Not referring to anyone specific here), with some of the work that we have had to repair from other "Reputable Firms" I wish them all luck.

Although I am a big fan of turbos, the idea of a supercharger is pretty appealing as well - the major considerations of turbos (water cooling, exhausts etc) are reduced - only need to work out the belts and mountings, as well as an oil feed, and piping - shouldn't be as bad?
Suprised CAPA doesn't have a kit yet - they have them for foulcans and common*****s.

They have a 'charger for the engine but for the Magna, positioning it is fun as space is tricky.
