Hi

My 22 year old son is in the market for a newer car than his first set of wheels. He wants a large car than the old Nissan Pulsar he is replacing. Up to now he has been looking at Falcondores - but for what he wants to pay 6-7k max I've not been too impressed. Started talking to the local mechanic, who used to work on Mitsubishi's who suggested a TH could be got for about that price - so I've just done a quick surf on the WEB, and looks like he's right, eg 2000 TH Exec with 150k for $7,000 (asking private).

I recently bought a 2003 TL VR AWD & love it....question is would these be a good buy at around these prices (must be!!!) and what should we look out for - also what to anticipate in terms of service costs over the next couple of years (i.e. major services).

Thanks

They are good cars, 1 they are so cheap to buy, 2 better fuel enconmy than any falcon or commodore & and 3 more refined. if it is due for a timing belt that could cost $500-$1000 depending on what else you replace.:)

I have a TH Sports which might be a little more than what he wants to pay, but the main difference is just trim between that and the execs.
Can recommend as a solid, reasonably powerful, comfortable car to drive.

My brother just sold his TH Advance Auto for around $7k. It had done about 140k kms and was serviced regularly. The only person that went to see it bought it straight away.

He never had any major trouble with it. I have a KH (aka TH) verada and never had any major problems with. Every now and then there might be a oil leak to fix, but thats life.

You will get a good car for your money if you pick right. I can't remember all the models and their options, but for little or no extra you could step up to power windows etc. A manual would be preferable but these are a little rare.
