So my stock piping has holes all over the place (exhaust took damage when I was hit) and the lukey muffler that I currently have is annoying the **** out of me. Not so because it drones or is too loud, but because I keep burning my damn leg on the tips sticking out.

So, time for a nice setup involving new piping, a middle muffler/resonator and a new rear muffler. I'm thinking either 2.5" or 3" piping, (as the V6 TS comes with 2.25" piping stock) and an xforce muffler or something similar. Yes, I'm after loud. Quite loud. I don't want a cannon type muffler as they're not suited to the 2nd gen.

Was thinking along the lines of the X-force PT01:

Is 3" piping a good idea? Better to stay with 2.5"? I want nice and loud, but no drone, is that possible? Is the PT01 a loud muffler?

good 2 hear mate. u should stay with the 2.5" otherwise your morelikely to lose back pressure thus lose hp. 2.5" can be just as loud as a 3". i got a 4 cyl ts with a 2.25" redback system, its perfect, nice n loud, does the job well. take a the resonators, problem solved. nice muffler tho, looks good. let us know how it goes.

honestly unless your going to have a massive turbo under the hood even the 2.5" does sweet fa.

so no use going 3", its way overkill man.
If you want loud loud....well depends...cause if you slap a nice cannon on the end with 1 or no resonators it will be pretty damn loud under 2500rpm, anything higher and you cant hear the muffler quite as much.

i know the feeling about holes in the exhaust. mines got a slit about 1foot long where it s bends. when accelerating hard sounds like a wet fart. are you going to get a cat back or just the muffler

cars with boost at 2 x atmospheric pressure may need 3" piping but you'll be fine with 2.5" the larger piping doesnt necessarily mean louder just leave it with one muffler on the back and it'll be loud, i have 2 resonators and a biGGGGG straight through muffler (that i'll be changing) and it's quiet except on throttle... actually got louder everytime i made some more power.

sigh:roll: Yeah cos back pressure is good, why not stick a potato in your exhaust for max back pressure. Make sure you really ram it up there so it doesn't come out easy.:doubt:

Back pressure is not good, you want as little pressure as possible, the problem is you also want as high a velocity in your exhaust as possible. When you put too large an exhaust on you loose exhaust gas velocity and the mild suction effect that is produced, thus this ridiculous backpressure myth. Of course if you have too small an exhaust, the gasses will have a high velocity but also pressure will build up at higher revs as the exhaust effectively chokes the engine.

As everyone else has said, the standard setup flows pretty damn well and is well suited to the engine's flow characteristics.

i've got a 2'1/2 inch cat back with no resonators or anythink like that, to a silinced cannon bit its not your typical cannon heres a pic of it

before wen i still had my magna i was gonna replace my exhaust tip to that, mine was a 2.5" single tip.

now i might get a pair of those exhaust tips and sit them on each side of the rear of my new car :D.. wen i get the cash to mod the exhaust

EDIT: if ur car is a 4cyl, DO NOT GET 3" PIPING.. i had the 4cyl and the 2.5" piping from the cat was enough to lose some torque, recommended for the 4cyl is 2.25" and 6cyl would be 2.5" IMO

Well, I'm getting mandrell bent 2.5" piping, removing all middle mufflers/resonators and a berklee straight-thru muffler with a stainless steel 4" single tip (as opposed to the ****house chrome plated tips that rust).

Should sound hawt

$280 catback 2.5" (i don't think 2.25 is standard on the TS.. i thinks its slightly smaller than that)
but if you want to hear mine (TS V6 Manual) i live in the northern beaches (or kiama on the wknds)
or i can try record you a sound clip
