Hi All,

I have a 1992 TR Executive Magna (2.6 EFI Auto). Is it possible to adjust the the idle speed? If so, how do I go about it?

Cheers.

The screw is NOT SUPPOSED to be touched.
Just undo the 2 bolts holding the accel. Cable in and slide it down lowering idle.

that screw is to be touched.
it is the idle ADJUSTMENT screw
if you take it ANYWHERE to have the idle sorted, they will use this screw.
When cold, a correctly operating IDLE CONTROLER will have the car idleing arond 1200rpm, when hot this will drop to around 750rpm.
my controler doesnt work, so i have the idle set at 1000rpm.

I suspect you are both talking about different things.

The throttle stop screw is factory set and should not be altered.

The idle adjustment screw in the throttle body under a rubber plug can be adjusted.

In my experience most TR idle faults are caused by the Idle speed
Servo.

WTF??? If you slide the cable, you end up with the same thing, the TPS is not set up and the butterfly is open more than it should be plus the cable will in time stretch back. The cable should have a few mm slacck in it.

There are 2 screws, the air screw which is for setting the idle when the base idle cut out is used (next to fuse box under dash, is in the tech section of my site) and there is the throttle stop screw, this one is not to be touched.

If you have high idle, also check for a split vacum hose as this can be a cause.

Mine idle's at 800rpm, even the factory manual says this is the norm, 1200rpm wtf? maybe for auto's, mine is manual and the book says 800rpm.

800 rpm with engine hot, no lights, in neutral, air off. The ISC (Idle speed control) motor is a stepping motor that is controlled by the engine computer. It increases the idle speed when the engine is cold, about 1200 rpm, and when you turn on the air or lights, to compensate for load.
So there.
If the ISC motor is not working, set the idle to 1000 rpm, so the air and lights drop it back to 800 rpm when in use. Works well on a manual, donno auto. ISC motors are available on eBay .

I think my idle controller is ****ed... Instead of increasing for load (aircon) it drops to ~500rpm... Standard idle in D (sounds like a concert... of RATTLES) is 800rpm or thereabouts, stays the same no matter what temp the engine is. How have people gotten around this problem? Science I'm looking at you (user and practice rofl)

my aircon also makes my idle drop to 500..sometimes it kicks in to increase the idle but most of the time it just drops to 500, wouldnt be a way to make it...more sensitive or something would there?

mine used to idle at 1600rpm in P, on a cold winter morning when the engine was freezing :bowrofl: But when hot, it idled around 800 with nothing on. Would drop around 550-600revs when i had air con on full blast.

ISC controller. That's all it was.
