Hello,
I have been having a problem with my stock 99 mitsubishi diamante oil drain plug/gasket. I use the gold oring/gasket (as the manual calls for). Everytime I change the oil the oring/gasket is melted onto the drain plug. I have to stack a new oring/gasket on top of the previously melted ones (on my third). What is your opinion on this? Should I be using these gold oring/gasket or should I be using another type of gasket or drain plug? What do you guys use on your 3.5 liter magna/verada engines? Has anybody had this problem? I mean these orings just weld one on top of the other to the drain plug...!
Any help or advice is appreciated!
Thank you.
Cheers!

I did notice the first oil change I did on the car, it had a gold crush washer (melted to bolt) and a (worn out) black rubber oring on top..... You mean you are not supposed to run the crushable gold orings, just the rubber oring? You just run the rubber oring, no other gasket? Let me know. Thank you for your help.

Here is a picture of the gold orings I use. They crush when you torque. These keep melting one on top of the other and I cannot remove the old one from the previous oil change. Is this what you guys use on your cars? I thought this is what the manual is calling for??? Let me know!
Thanks!

afaik, it's just the black rubber o-ring. And they can be reused a couple of times if you don't over tighten the plug.

I see. I didnt know it was just the rubber oring.... Do you usually buy these at the Mitsubishi dealer, or just use any that fit the bolt?
I hope I didnt torque the bolt down too much, since I have been using the gold metal crush washers at 39nm.....

Do you torque to spec 39nm, any leaks?

I do mine to 40Nm. No Leaks. The monkeys at Ultratune did it up to about 80Nm a few oil changes ago. Last time I went back there! Now a do it myself, At least I know what I'm getting.

Best thing I have found is to use a flat piece of lead and punch a bolt-sized hole in it, then cut it into a washer shape.
Never had a leak or anything as the lead forms to any imperfections in the shape of the sump and hole.

Thanks for all the information. What kind of lead do you use, 2mm? Where do you find the stuff?
Thanks.
