Performance depends on:

1. Torque
2. Horse Power
3. Weight

all of us are thinking at better ways of increasing the first two...... what about the weight then?

I removed the spare wheel the second day after purchasing the car ..... I'm considering now removing the back chairs but my wife disagrees completely :).

I guess you noticed as well how the car is feeling much more alive only with you in it and the petrol tank almost empty........

So....which are the best ways of cutting the weight down?

To keep the Magna street drivable and legal, not a lot can be done unfortunately. The rear seats, boot partition, replacing the front seats with custom items (Sparco, anyone? :)) Taking off those 30kg 18's and chucking stockies on are just a few of the things you can do.

Leave the car alone.....

but you could Diet :) :p

Removing spare wheel, back seats makes stuff all difference....Magnas are porky live with it :p

I once did what you are considering with an SR20DET Bluebird before a drag meet one day, I weighed everything as I took it out.....it only came to 30 odd KGs all up (Back seat, spare tyre, jack back shelf and speakers) and made absolutely no difference to my time :?

removing weight start buying carbon fibre gear.

like a bonnet. boot side panels , they are expensive tho :)

also you can remove windscreen for a speshul kind of percpex version but i recon the last time i heard the price on them it was well into the racing only budget like 8-10 grand a screen.

Yesterday I removed the washer tank+motor and wipers (it never rains here). My wife finally agreed on removing the back chairs, but big dissapointment: they're not heavy at all :( - maybe 3-4 kg.

I was thinking of removing the window's electric motors (4 pieces) but don't know who can convert them to manual

If you want to sell the motors and gear for the electric windows i'll buy it :)

No offense Arun - but you purchased a Vr-X, why are you trying to convert it to an Exec?

Between 10Kw @ Wheels and 100KG

I'd go the 100kgs..

There is no replacement for displacement... There is also no replacement for having a lighter car :D.. oooh an being a better driver too :D :D

it's not all about power/acceleration - think about braking, handling and wear as well

and I really don't open the windows much here in Dubai :) even at 4:00 am in the morning the temperature is around 28-30 degrees (AC is a burden to the engine :( )

why should the engine/gearbox carry all that unecessary stuff around?

imagine running naked with the latest, lightest nike shoes - or try running with the fur coat on, caterpillar boots and a 24pack of Fosters cans in your hands :)

I have just removed 2 cans :)

Dude if you are really obsessed with going faster, buy a faster car. Making it uncomfortable and bland will do very very very little. Um perhaps WRX or Supra or 200sx? Just a thought.

the heaviest part of the car that can be removed is the deadening (black stuff all over the car)
this weights a ton (and be rready to go deaf)
also dash, boot lining.

since you are in dubai, where money is cheap, why dont u go make urself guards in Fiberglass, i dont hink it would cost much.

There is no better new car at this price tag here - 17.000 USD (and if it is it's to late) and I don't like the idea of buying a second hand performance car (abused)

I'll just try to improve this one as much as I can.

removing the unnecesary items doesn't mean that its becoming uncomfortable. The car is built to suit and serve a large area of customer's needs (economy, comfort, performance, looks, etc) - I'm just customizing the car for my needs - i.e I don't need an economical engine here as the petrol is cheap, I don't need comfort yet, as I'm not 40 years old, but I need the performance part.

when the budget will allow and the bank installments will be over for this one, be sure I'll switch to an EVO IX :P

Fair enough mate, but not all used sports cars have been abused. My rex is a testament to that. Driven hard at times but insanely well maintained and treated with respect. So dont draw that assumption instantly.

and how would you know how was the car treated by the seller? Ask a spiritual shaman to get in contact with the car's spirit?

Get the angle grinder out!!!
turn her into a ute, or even better convertible!!!
post pics too, ute magna would be sick! and with front wheel drive!
woo hoo!

try taking the brake lights out. Other's behind you will have to pay when they crash into you, and you can use the cash meant for a new boot to make a ute back!!!

i think arun putting all your ideas together for weight saving, running naked, have no spare tyre, no back seat, it could get funny if u get serious and lose as much weight as the back seat thats just foam and fabric,...drive naked convince your passengers to do the same, and then have a flat tyre....
