hi all

I'd like to install a 5spd triptronic trans from a ralli-art magna into a TF exec.
Just wondering if it is a simple conversion or are there parts I need for it to work successfully

Thanks

unless ur swapping same for same its not gonna be easy...

straight up ur gonna need:
the gearbox
the computer for it... and since its the same as the engine computer ur gonna need to atleast have a 3.5 or a piggyback to adjust the afr's
the shifter
dash cluster

and thats just off the top of my head for parts... from there i can see the need for quite a few wires to be added for different things... ie. to switch the lights in the dash, feeds to the comp from shifter in tippy mode, etc

would be great to go from a std auto to the 5sp tippy... but unless u can go with out ur car for QUITE a while and know a good auto elec to help with the wiring, it prob just isn't practical.

Better off selling your current car, and buying a Magna with Tippy already in it.

Less Hassle, and would be a hell of a lot cheaper.

Unless you love your car that much, and you don't wanna see it go...

All that trouble to swap the auto out for...another auto?
I think you should consider if it's worth the cost of a few thousand you'll be spending, on an ageing budget car probably not worth much more than what you'll be spending on the converstion.

A tippy auto is still an auto...I think the novelty of it will wear off pretty quick, and then you'll be asking yourself why you spent so much money/effort/time on it. IMO if you want real control over the car, go manual, otherwise stick with what you've got. If you are hell bent on going tippy, just buy a car with tippy, rather than throwing money at an ageing exec.

You will have problems with ecu, tcu, torque converter and the housing to fit in the interior and might have to custom build an adaptor plate just to fit the gearbox. You would prolly need to replace all of the above.

I would look at getting the whole engine/auto/computer from the ralliart and putting it all in.

Go find a ralliart magna with a tippy in it and just buy that. Then you can say you have a ralliart as well as having the tiptro gear box.

O BTW its a lot easier than trying to convert between them.
