Hi all
I am in the middle of changing over my HU and am wondering what the single blue wire (with its own plug) is that runs into the back of the original HU
I am guessing it is the illumination cable as it is the only cable i am missing on my new loom.
Is this correct
Oh TL AWD

lol noice, now try turning on your headlights once it gets dark.
if your HU dims then youve done it right.
shoulda multimetered the cable to see if its illumination wire or not.. $8 at dick smith for a DMM id you dont have one, and possibly the single most important too you will ever own for car audio installations.

From Memory, I think the illumination wire is usually orange. It's not something that all headunits come with, but alot do.
I am quite sure the blue is a remote wire. Which is used to send a power signal to external units. ie, Power Antenna or as Acc wire to Amplifier.
Is it a new head unit that you are installing or second hand?
What brand/model is it?

I installed a new sony unit.
on the sony loom it had an orange illumination cable.
I only had the blue single wire left over after connecting the hu to the existing wires so i put two and two together and took a punt.
as of this arvo there is still no sign of a flaming wreck in my driveway and the illumination of the new HU works.........
so i either got lucky or the blue cable doesn't do anything

Ok so my hu works perfectly, i.e fade, ballance etc. but now that I have driven it a night Its seem that my stab in the dark missed.
can any one tell me which wire from the orriginal TL loom is the illumination light and if it isn't the single blue wire (which I figure it is not as the hu doesn't dim what the head lights go on) then what the hell is that wire for.
or else, can some one tell me how to test to find out which of the remaining wires is the illumination cable. I own a multimeter but am stuffed if I know how to use it.
cheers

I did read that tim (the blue wire is for the power antenna).
so why is there a power antenna wire in the full original loom. My power antenna is working fine yet the sony's loom (orange wire) is connected to the single blue wire (apparently power antenna)that came out of the original stereo.
Does anyone know which original wire (colour) the illumination wire (orange from my sony hu) is mean to connect to so that it dims when I turn on my lights.
other than that all is great
