hey,
has anyone connected something to their alpine head unit (not an ipod) using the aux plugs? i was thinking about plugging my laptop into it for some serious music selection. was wondering if its as simple as buying a female aux adapter type thing?
my unit is the swingface CDA 9851 i think or 9854 or something lol.

cheers for any help!

i have an xbox hooked up to my alpine headunit,my headunit is a CDA-9857,you will need a special cord that hooks into the bak(car be purchased from many car audio stores),then you have to adjust the settings on the headunit, one hell of a mission to do.

It should be as easy as getting the audio (headphone like plug) to RCA cable and plugging it in and selecting AUX on your headunit. Have done it with my panasonic and works great :).
Just make sure you're volume is turned down on the laptop, will make tuning alot easier :).

the audio plug is called a 3.5mm minijack plug.
As stated before its an alpine unit. Not all headunits have aux in via rca... u need to buy the Alpine KCA121B adapter as above ~$50 -> $90 depending where u shop

And you want the volume turned up on the laptop to provide a stronger source signal or preferably a line out. Just make sure its not to the point of distorting the preamps on the headunit.

Yeh, what i meant was before he connected it and started playing music, to turn it down, just in case it came out a little louder than he expected.
