Hi,

Just picked up the little clear plastic ring that fits around the ignition barrel so that you can see where to put your key in at night, and I'm looking at this thing and I have NO idea how to wire it up since turning the lights on would be redundant.

Since the interior lights dont exactly fade out when the doors shut (unless you buy an interior light dimming kit from the likes of jaycar) where / how would it be best to wire this thing up?

Anyone got any ideas / picture guides etc. And is it more or less the same for wiring up the outside door keylight also?

Hey mate I wired mine straight into the door trigger ground located in the A pillar (red wire from memory) and then just drew power from the battery and it works a treat.
This means it is only on when the doors are open though. Hope that helps

Did any Magna Verada come with an illuminated key surround? ... I thought it strange that my TJ VR-X, costing $42K new... did not have one?

Anyone?

:D

The Verada's definitely do. It is wired into the interior light and behaves the same way.
That is, it says on until either the car is started or the dimmer has timed out.

My 92 Elite has it, it comes on when I open the door n goes off after I put the key in, or lock the doors.

As Josh93 said, just wire it up to the interior lights (I used the footwell light), it may not have the delay, but hey...

I haven't really investigated, but a very simple system could probably be made with a large enough capacitor on the supply line...

how does it work on the elite. does the ecu control the timing or what.

I think it's controlled by ETACS.
Might be interesting to see if you can rip out an ETACS system and get a couple of it's functions happening on a non-ETACS car... As to what those functions may be, I have no idea. Pretty sure there's security stuff, etc.

ETACS is basically your body computer which on the Elite and the Verada controls the
electronic timed security system, the power windows and central locking, light timing and
some other functions.

is this in the ecu or is it separate.

is this in the ecu or is it separate. Separate unit. Do a search
on ETACS on AMC. Anyway, (thanks to Madmagna's post, it is located right up under the
dash above the fuse box (inside). It is located on the section of the fire wall that is
horizontal (above it outside would be your wiper arms etc).

Honestly, after trawling through the circuit diagrams in the service manual, I don't think it's worth the effort of trying to install it. Doesn't seem to have all that much to offer. Probably better off making your own circuit.
Then again, I'm about to fall asleep, so maybe I'm just not thinking clearly.

Oh yeah, and it stands for "Electronic Time and Alarm Control (System?)"
I'm thinking from my brief look that the alarm might occur if you start it without a key in the ignition, or if doors open without being unlocked?
