k well tonight i was drivin home after thrashing my car on the straights for about 10 mins, and all of a sudden comming down a hill, oil, peterol, battery, N, and indicator lights all flash on and off and steeing locks, so i manage to swing the ass end (using E brake and what little steering i have) out and just make the corner of this roundabout without hitting the island on the left exit  so i stop the car, NO DAMAGE OMGWTF I OWN FTW, stop the car for like 10 mins, kick it over and it starts no hassles so i drive it home even up my huge hill in 1st gear at around 5k RPM,
so the question of this story is WTF happened
PS this was done at like 12:30 am so noone was around

I'd be thinking to check your liquid levels. Sounds like everything just went straight away from the piping at a very unlucky time. If all the levels are fine, maybe check the gearbox or the ecu. I really am not sure though. Someone else will reply soon with a proper answer :D .

So you hammered your car continuously for 10 minutes on straights on public roads, BUT NO ONE WAS AROUND SO IT'S OK! Then wonder why your car died on you? Haven't you seen the news lately with kids dieing all over the show? The other week in QLD a car full of young kids, youngest being 15 were racing someone in their Holden Statseman, they hit a tree at 184km/h.
THINK!
I honestly don't care what's wrong with your car. Hopefully it's broken so you can't drive anymore.

Come on guys. If you have nothing useful to say, then dont post. He never said he was speeding. ;) He said he was thrashing it. Doesn't mean he was speeding. I can thrash mine in first gear and go 60, and have the engine rev its life out. So dont go assuming.
I would think that the engine maybe got starved of petrol and stalled. That would explain why all the lights suddenly came on, and your steering stopped. Power steering system makes it difficult to steer when engine off. ;)

Yes, people often thrash their cars at 60km/h.

So what if he was thrashing his car, its his car so he can do what he wants, like you have never thrashed your car before :doubt: anyways on topic that sounds very strange twunka, as above check all your fluid levels just to be on the safe side, if all seems well then maybe just take her in to the mechs for a look see, or take it out again and thrash it to see if the problem occurs again lol
Good luck

So, you bought a ralliart and never drive above the speed limit. Maybe it was a windy country road with a 100km limit. By all means warn him but lets try and be a little less judgemental. Sounds like you lost electrical power.

Talk about Hipocritical, so driving a Ralliart (most powerful magna at the time) ur telling us that you have never given ur car a few stabs???... As for the tree hitting episode, KIDS was the operative word here, unfortunatly I hate to say it, but its gunna take more blood on the roads until it sinks to transport departments. Either put a restriction on engine size, or do a Defensive and Offensive driving course b4 maintaining their license.
(I have done both, and they are well worth the money).
As for the car dien, well I prob wouldnt do what you were doin until u get her checked out.. I would be checkin battery/alternator and all corresponding leads and connections.

let he who hath never sped or accelerated quickly cast the first stone. sounds like a bcm failure considering it caused a variety of different system failure lights to turn on. Interesting you said the steering wheel locked. We all know that the ignition barrel can cause problems but i would have thought the wheel lock was mechanical to your key.

It is, wheel lock is activited by your key. I would think his power steering cut out which made it feel heavy which is probably why he thought it was "locked".
Get your battery/alternator checked out, have you washed your engine bay recently? It does sound electrical.

He never said he sped, even on an 80km/h highway you can "thrash" your car by accelerating harder than normal. It's just up to what your interuptation of "thrashing" is.
When we don't know the facts, we need to give him the benefit of the doubt. At least he didn't come on here bragging that he hit rev limiter in 3rd and was blowing away other cars at the lights getting up to 150km/h + and then his car died. That would be a different situation :P.

PS thanks to everyone who was helpful, i took it for a roll this morning and nothing went wrong, i guess it musta just been a freak occurance lol, i'll keep an eye on it

I'd say your car simplly just stalled. I had this happen a couple times when my oxygen sensor (could be unrelated in your case) was stuffed.
Once it happed as I was turning through a buisy intersection, scary when you don't expect it!!! Lucky it's a manual, so I just pushed the clutch in and out to restart.

yeah i've had my car stall on me before (long story) but it wasn't that, this time the lights went haywire, n everything.

yeah u keep running, i meant in the 10 or so mins from my friends house back to mine (straight down the M1) i was a little fumed as she called up sayin her b/f was hitting her and i went round and got smashed in the chest with a golf club, but i sorted stuff out and droped her round at her folks place, but u try to help someone else out and u cop either a blow to the chest or a blow to the balls

I speeke da gud engrish y0.
Choose your words more carefully. It must just be me who interprets "thrashing" a car as taking it to its limits. Usually this is occompanied with speeding. If you didn't speed then good on you, I take it back. Hopefully you get your car sorted out and your sternum replaced. lol

Try going in a corner at a quick speed, it will most likely happen again. I think your fuel pump just couldn't get fuel... its a known issue with earlier 3rd gens
EDIT: Actually, dont do it. hahahaha

Are you refering to the baffled fuel tank that the ralliart project developed?
Fantaysia
07-12-2006, 10:44 AM
hey a little off topic .... if that happened in a manual you could clutch in and restart it and keep going ... in an auto would you slide it into neutral to start it and gain power steering and brakes again to stop? Obviously you wouldnt put it back in drive until you had stopped, but for the purpose of regaining control of steering etc .. .. ??
Hope your car is ok dude :)

I think he was referring to the non-baffled standard fuel tanks in Magnas, since he suggested it might have been a fuel starvation issue. :D

I had that going out to my friend's place in Hobartville in my TR. I was travelling along at 100km/h, and suddenly things just die... no power steering, I had to basically roll off the road.
Thought it was the dizzy, replaced it, found it wasn't the case, took it back, got an ECU. Replaced that, all was good. But then after replacing the ECU I got the lifter problem. Sigh.
