hi,
im thinking of buying a magna/verada for my 2nd car,
im curious about the difference between them? eg engine, trans, interior, exterior
i was originally thinking commodore, but i think that a magna will be better value for money.
also, what should i look out for when looking for one to buy?
Thanks

Basically, in commodore speak, the magna is the commodore, the solara is the commodore
Acclaim/Lumina etc and the verada ei is the berlina dn the verada xi is the calais.
Engine/trans, depends on the year
Interior: Verada has plush velour/leather depending on ei/xi/GTVi/GTVi AWD and what year
Exterior: Verada has longer bumper, colour coding, different lights etc.

Thats the easy way to put it. The verada is the upper class, however do take note that fuel economy suffers as the car is much heavier.
Come back to us with a budget in mind and we may give you an idea which Magna or Verada you could possibly get.
cheers

hey guys,
sorry for the really late reply, thanks for the clarifications.
i just sold my car for $6000, and now im looking at magnas again.
i want at least a 1995 ( i think ) that was when there was the change in body shape? to the newer one with the square back.
im not sure whether i should buy one for around $7k and take out a small loan, or try and find one around $5.5k ish and go from there. any ideas?
ideally id want one with <150,000kms and black or navy blue, but those seems to be a bit rarer.
any help / ideas / what to look for when buying one appreciated
thanks

That is not always the case
I have a KJ Verada Wagon - and prior to that I had a TJ Magna Wagon
now, the TJ was the most basic Exec model you could get, didnt eve have cruise control let alone any of the other goodies, I now have the top of the line model Verada Wagon - which is now even heavier due to stereo upgrades and a bulk pack of dynamat in it, and it has the same fuel consumption as the TJ I had........

Thats because it has a 5 speed g'box instead of a 4 speed g'box.

Look around as 3rd gens prices have had the arrrse drop out on them.
I would suggest whatever you get go for an Altera, Solara, Verada. Either of them will be alot easier to live with than a lower model.

For $7k you should be able to get a semi-decent KE, otherwise for 5.5k you should be able to get a TE/TF in pretty good condition. Any 3rd gen veradas for 5.5k i'd be wary of, they'd probably have very high kms and run like they're on 4 cylinders :P.

Hrmm, in that price range you'll be hard set to find a 3rg gen verada for under 150k kms, although you could prob find a magna with power windows and stuff i guess.
btw, just so you know, when we talk about 3rd gen and 2nd gen etc.
1st gen is the old old style boxy magna's - TM 1985 - TP 1990
2nd gen are the more rounded edge magna - TR 1991 - TS 1995
3rg gen are the more squared body, but newer - TE 1996 - TW 2005
Look around TE - TJ for yours, i guess i'm a lil bias, but I think the 3rd gens offer alot better value for money, and are only a grand or so more.

yeah I definitely want a 3rd gen.
this is something that i would / will be looking at

looks like a pretty good buy dude. low kms, looks in good nic, and you get power windows too. Just remember to get an racv check etc. all done on it, make sure the engine is tip top. They're about 60-80 bucks from memory..

Yeap I'd have to agree that looks like a very nice buy. Haggle a bit and you might get it for $6000.

If you give yourself a couple of weeks looking around you should be able to pick up a nice deal. For example I bought my late 2000 TJ Advance mid last year with only 86000km and immaculate cond for only 8k with 12months reg.... just searched carsales.com faithfully each day.

that one was gone before i got a chance unfortunately,
but i hope that i will find a nice one on carsales or tradingpost soon! just sold my car today, so im without a ride! lol.
if anyone sees a nice magna with low kms' < 150,000
preferably manual, but thats a long shot i think.
3.5L V6, and id like something more that the executive.
im thinking around the $7k mark. but $6k would be better. :)
thanks
