hi guys

i was hoping you guys could give me ur opinion on some issues with our th magna we recently bought. After we first bought it and we drove it on the freeway at say 110+ km/h..the passenger window just seemed to rattle a bit...then sometimes it did it around 70-80km/h once in a while (not all the time but now and then)...any ideas why it would do that...isnt really doing that now (well the last few months).......

but what concerns me more is the amount of wind noise we get when we reach speeds of 110 km/h or more it seems quite loud, like the window is not closed properly (even though it is)...the rubber seals dont seem worn...where can the noise be from? and on top the car just doesnt seem so keen to rev after 120 km/h...i seem to have to floor the throttle more than i need to compared to say upto 110 and basically just a lot of noise but no real gain in speed....hell the cars only done 66000 kms and nrma inspection said alls good..except tests at 130 km/h

Sorry for the long questions

Hope you guys can give me some valued help
Thanks heaps really appreciate it

hi chendur,

the wind noise is probably the window seals, my mum had to take her VRX(new) back 3 weeks after she bought it cause of wind noise and it was the window seals.......

not sure on the lost power, is it a 3.5lt auto?

yeah sorry its a 3.5 litre auto...the power thing isnt too bad..i mean if i put the pedal to the floor it might go...i am just concerned that its isnt as responsive as lower speeds...but then again it could be me.

Not having a Magna, I don't know 100%, but these cars don't have window pillars do they? If so, the window doesn't really have anything to locate it above the door, so if the window track inside the door was not solidly mounted, the top of the window could be "sucked out" at speed, causing the wind noise. If it happened at lower speed, this could be the same with a bit of a cross wind maybe?

Open the door with the window up, and see if the window moves in and out (not up and down, or back and forwards if you get what I mean).

Otherwise, have a tug from the outside or a push from the inside at the top of the glass when the door is closed and see if it moves or rattles, it may give you an idea what to look for.

A local type mechanic (not normally one at a service station, in my opinion) is more likely to look at it than Mitsubishi, as in your other post. They could give some ideas.

Is your magna a stock exec/advance, with the normal muffler?

If so, then your lack of power is probably "normal" then. When I changed my exhaust to a straight though design, it made a big difference round a 80-120k mark, in terms of wanting to die off. Keeps wanting to pull for longer now :D
