Bit skeptical about the quick solution additives you add to your oil/petrol and bam something happens and its working like new again. I have always and still believe that if something is wrong get it repaired or replaced and that these additives only silence the problem, or provide a temporary fix, whilst damage is being caused to your engine, some of these cleaners sound ok but the others i don't think i will ever use. Just after some feedback on members experiences with them and what they think, is it worth it or is it just money out the exhaust??

Wynns spitfire, beats paying $150 to get your injectors cleaned at a dealer, and works a treat for me :).

The ONLY thing I have ever used was "Seal Up" to stop water leaking into the oil, and it stopped it nicely.. other than that, I really am against adding anything to the oil and stuff. I've only ever seen mates encounter worse problems after using such products to stop smoke and stuff like that, makes things worse.

Nulon worn engine treatment works on the tappet noise issue on 3.5s by actually getting proper lubrication into the the lifters and cleaning them out. Its not masking a problem, but offering a permanent fix. You have got try this before you go through the expense of lifter replacement.

Exactly what I use.

I also use some Wynn's stop leak in the mrs' KR as she has got a newly reco engine, and this stuff apparently helps to keep rubber seals "replenished" so $10 each service and hopefully the rings wont go as early as usual on these models.

I do see some benefit in additives though, like my sisters TS 2.6, engine is ~250,000Km old, blows smoke and rattles. I use 25-70 oil, A bottle of lucas oil stabiliser, bottle of nulon stop smoke and the car doesnt blow any smoke and doesnt rattle for 7-8000Km.

Valve stem seals are a good example of things that can kinda be "fixed"; they get hard with age, leading to leakage, leading to smoke. Some additives, and some oils as well, help keep them "soft", or soften them back up to a degree.

Can't remember the additive I used, but a hit every few months reduced or completely stopped my minor smoking problem. I'm now using an oil that inherently softens the seals (don't actually know the name of the oil, but apparently it does quite a good job in all departments).

If you can breath new life into 'em for a while with a $15 additive, that gets my vote over a $400+ replacement.

Yup. Fix the issue that causes the symptoms, don't just hide them. Yes some do the job they're made to 'fix' but it's a band-aid solution only.

Getting them replace under warranty for free :D
Its so good when you b!tch about something for so long that eventually they give up and fix it, even though you can hardly hear it.

And if you have a close look at most Nulon products you'll see the ever so fine metal particles in it, almost like someone mixed thermal tranfer paste with oil, it frees parts by wearing larger clearances in them :( I know a guy that sold Nulon for a living, got a good look at lots of those products - He also sold avon :bowrofl:

Hard not to be biased against them after an intro like that.
