Ok after recently dumping some $$$$$ on getting my engine going smooth again another problem has arrised with it. There is a random clunking noise coming from behind (or from) the water pump. I'm taking it into the guy that did my chain a couple weeks ago and I want to be armed with some slight knowledge first......if anyone has anything.
is it completely random? funnily enough i'm getting a noise from the same area, however i think its the engine mount as the noise only seems to happen when the engine moves around (ie starts and stops)
It will probably be related to something like acceleratingly, engine moving about, maybe braking?

Thats what I first thought, but it now happens even when I start the car and it is standing still.
EDIT: I'm almost positive it's the water pump bearings now. If I place my hand on it I can feel the knock sound through it, whereas I can't feel it from the engine or other components. With the bonnet up I can actually hear a subtle constant noise coming from the pump also, so i'll probs just get that replaced some time in the next few days.

Some people have had a problem with the belt hitting the cover (that might be the constant suttle noise)
Remove the cover and see if that helps

 :tantrum:  :headbange I am so damn angry at this SOB car. The water pump seized while in a packed southland carpark during christmas time shopping. Managed to get it to a service lan in a minute or so and shut it off before the temp gauge hit 3/4. Had to get it towed to my mechanic who wasnt open this morning to get the pump fixed then.
EDIT: Anyone know roughly what it should cost me to get the pump replaced?

$90-$130 for the pump, plus about $400 in labour.

I was gonna say....400 is the labour that i got charged for my timing chain. The pump is right there in plain view. Drain coolant, unbolt old, bolt on new, refill coolant. Nearly gave me a friken heart attack. Couldnt be more than what I was charged for my starter motor.

Why not just do it yourself?
Also... if you havent had any other cooling system hoses replaced in a while... dont hesitate to do the LOT at the same time. They're cheap genuine from mitsu.. and are a very common problem with the 4cyls.

Brand new water pump: $63. You could get out of this relatively cheap if you are prepared to wait a couple of days to get it and install it yourself.

1. I have looked into doing it myself hense point no.2
2. I really cant be bothered in this heat at the moment.
3. My hoses (as far as I can tell) arent all that old.
Yer, my timing chain was done for 550 by the mechainc that does all my dads business car repairs and I am getting the pump done at the same place, so it wont be expensive at all.
He's going to get to his garage tomorow and be like "wtf is this sod doing back here?" cos my car is just sitting there.
