I was talking to salesman today who said the TW's seemed to be tuned more for economy than the earlier models making them not quite so quick on their feet.

Anyone else noticed this?

Also TW's create world peace, unlike TL's (j/ks :)

Don't used car salespeople suck! They always come out with plausible, but untrue stuff. Looking to upgrade Tessa? Dual fuel wagon?

Almost no difference. My boss thought he was buying a TW wagon (pretty nice too, on 18's), thats what he said he wanted, and most of the way through the lease paperwork we saw it was a TL (one of the last). Basically the lights were colour matched, the number plate was now held by a bit of plastic, and for the ES, that was pretty much it. The VRX, LS and AWD models all got reshuffled, that is were the only significant TW differences lie.

Good luck with it, a cheap wagon with 5 year warranty would be a good deal

its possible, could be as simple as a different shift pattern in the in the tranny but only mitsu would know.

doubtful, it's a learning transmission. To make it change it's shift pattern to be economical, all you'd have to do is drive it like a grandma. Perhaps that's why he thought that? He may have driven a TW that was owned by a grandma, and driving a TL owned by a p plater* :P.

*Yes i know, stereotypes, but meh, it gets my point accross :).

yeah but what if they made grandma mode standard so that u dont need to drive like a grandma for it to be in grandma mode?

i doubt they 'll do that, how many ppl will buy a car that drives like its made for grandmas, after test drive it?

theres not a huge difference between the modes in city driving u probably wont notice. like how the tranny sometines starts in second gear in peak traffic.

I test drove a TW, I was not what I expected either. Iv driven my mates stock 2000 Altera, this would wee all over the TW.

Thats cos the TL/TW gained a lot of weight due to having stronger body shell and more
goodies as standard.

Someone once mentioned the TL (or possibly the TW)s AWD where tuned for better economy as the TJ AWDS like to drink a bit. Could have been a modification that was carried out across the range?

Well, it sounds like my TL is a drinker and a fighter! I don't know what tuning improvements they made, but mine must have been out that day. I get ~13.5l/100km in traffic. Talking about the transmission, my dealer loaded new firmware into mine to reduce the abrupt engagement when putting it into gear in the mornings. So there will be different firmware options out there.
