hey all, after replacing h/g & some other stuff, came time to fill radiator & start her(92 TR)up.filled up to top of tank, squeezed top hose, put right amount in overflow bottle.left the cap off & went to start-shot coolant a gd.2feet in the air!! had heard there could be trouble with air locks in the TR:confused: .should there be that amount of pressure ???? have i blocked something off accidently.anyone had similar??or is this perfectly normal you think?

when i get my HG's when we filled up the radiator we left the cap off for all the air bubbles to get to the top, then after no more bubbles we put the cap on.
Did you do that? or just put the cap on straight away?

As TUFFTR said, but I also let her get to temp and turn the heater on full for a minute or 2, then put the cap back on.

i filled the radiator up,let it settle, filled up some more, squeezed the top hose, filled up to full, left the cap off & THEN started it up whereupon she shot two foot skywards.i expected a bit to spill out but to be able to keep it running whilst continuing to fill her up & purging all the air out.i shut her down straight away & posted in here, just the force she spewed it out from that 1st initial turningover has me concerned.

Wow ok....That seems pretty major, did she continually spit the stuff out or was it just one burst?
Ill have to give up here mate Im not sure what your problem can be, Ill be just guessing

lol.
Does it do this continually? If you fill it up again and start it up will it do it?
Try that... and if it does, put your hand over the radiator neck (while its cold) and check if theres a large amount of pressure coming out.
If there's not, then keep topping up the cooling system while its running (with heater fully on) and once it seems full enough pop the cap on, top up the reservoir bottle and see how she runs... keep a good watch over the temp, and the overflow bottle.
Its possible that there was a rather large air pocket in the system, and with a dodgy thermostat (stuck fully open) the water pump would create high flow back to the radiator when engine is cold... highly unlikely, but possible.
Or you may have connected an engine vacuum hose to your cooling system somehow... :bowrofl:
Head gasket is also another possibility...
