Just a quick one.
Does the brand of oil filter make a difference (really.. ..) in the life of the oil, the temperature of the oil, the crap getting into the oil etc?
Or is it much muchness where theres a 'theoretical' difference but no-ones really sure?
Just curious incase theres a serious difference in brands or something

Not all filters are created equal. I found this site that was interesting to read. I'm currently running a Pure one filter and I'm not having oil starvation issues due to high filtration that the author of this site believes.

As I said in my post - Currently a Pure One (Purlator)
I've also run Ryco filters and genuine ones.
You'll probably find that most if not all of our aussie filters are identical (rebranded) to the ones listed in this article.

Over 30 yrs of motoring and playing (!) with cars never heard of anyone having probs with good brand filters. We have never used cheap generic ones. But saying this, I don't have any hard evidence to prove my point really....

...thats what i use..
The oil pressure builds up quite quickly from cold startup now... no more startup rattles at all!
As for filtration, i'm not 100% of the particle density/retention capabilities of the K&N, but i've been running the same oil for 17,000kms now, and no signs of going black so far... i know this has much to do with the quality of fuel used... but some credit goes to the filter still.
Also... does anybody use the magnetic sleeves at all? was thinking about getting one, or making up a similar device. After seeing how much they collect after so little km's travelled... kinda makes me a bit paranoid.
