1988 Magna, what is it then? TN, TM, TP??

Couple of issues with it:

When I switch air con on, the revs drop etc (like it kicks in) but doesn't cool the air. Also, heater doesn't work either (put it to heat but no temp change)

It uses a lot of petrol. What could this be?

Otherwise great car. $700 with 4 months rego, all tyres good, windows all good, interior great, body straight and paintwork good for its age, no oil leaks, no cold start problems or funny noises etc
100% happy with it!

Gonna get new leads, spark plugs, filters, oil etc into it
Want to fix heater/air con
And fuel consumption
Also thinking about changing the shocks. Does supercheap auto sell for this car those $30 shocks where you buy 3 get 1 free?
I would assume as crap as they are, they would be better than the original ones?

1988 = TN

this is whats happening to mine... mine is a leaky pipe and the gas has leaked out. there is still enough pressure to kick the compressor over, but not enough to cool. you'll need it regassed with a new drier (approx $150-$200ish to get it working and regasses). As for heater not working, are you sure the heater core is not bypassed due to it leaking inside the car? check the heater hoses under the bonnet.

how much is too much? the average is around 400ish per tank. also is it EFI or carby? if carby could be a sticking choke.

would you trust $30 shockers?

my shockers cost me around $300-$400 to buy... and are at least a reputable brand (Monroe).

I was told about the choke, how could I check and take it off choke if this is the case? I can't say how many km per tank as I haven't had it long enough

I doubt the heater core is leaking as it would be leaking coolant everywhere inside the car wouldn't it? Maybe low coolant level, or block pipes?

With the shocks, the car I would say has original shocks which are 290,000km old. The car is nothing more than a run around car, so I don't want to spend money on it. Just wouldn't mind making it into a goodish run around car. So I think those $30 shocks would still be better than what is in it at the moment? For it's age the car is fairly stable at 120km/h
