Hi there

Its time to replace my brake pads on a 2001 KJ Verada. Currently runs Genuine Pads which are great - good pedal feel, fade resistance and low dusting - but they are expensive and don't seem to last that long.

Any idea as to what might be a good after market pad? Are the Lucas Pads any good (really concerned about maintaing the good pedal feel and fade resistance)? Heard they dust too much.

Anybody tried the Bosch and Bendix GCT pads on their car? Also, does anybody out there have access to the genuine PBR pads relatively cheaply?

would appreciate your advice.

thanks
LouisK

i've only used the standard pads, after seeing some other members mags after a few days of aftermarket pads, i wouldn't choose anything else. the dust created was crazy! i know all brands will be different but these seem to work fine :D

Just got a quote today for genuine pads to suit the TL, rear only = $111.

Might drop into Motor traders and see what they can do, cause i don't really want to get bendix pads and greenstuff are too expensive (and take a little while to warm up which can be scary).

Blackstuff rears if you've got the AWD version. - $50 max.

My greenstuff (fronts) are good cold and great after the first brake application.

for the OP

you first need to decide whats more important to you.....

do you want to stop well, have good pedal feel, have squeeky brakes, have lots of dust, and have to change your pads more regularly?

or

do you want to not stop that well, have average 'sedan like' pedal feel, not have squeeky brakes, have hardly any dust on your rims, and have your pads last forever?

you need to decide cos you cant have both.

the more feel and stopping power you have, the quicker they need replacing and the more dust they produce, and vice versa.

i have tried 8 brands/types of pads on my car. i like my car to stop when i want it to - not a few metres past the point. i dont care if my rims are covered in black dust after 1 week because at the end of the day, i'd gladly wash my car more often if it means i get to avoid emergency situations.

i've tried bendix ultimates, bendix metal kings, OEM Mitsu, QFM pads, Lucas, and many more dubious brands. i've found that Lucas are the ones that fit my needs perfectly. but obviously thats not to say that it will fit your needs.
