Hey all, been having a few issues lately so i decided to call mitsu to see how much they charge for reading error codes as my engine light has started to appear!!
the guy at mitsu essendon told me it would cost $98 to read the codes, now i thought that was a little harsh and i have seen a few threads where others had been charged the same amount and others have not paid at all, is this a warranty thing or is this just mitsu being dodgey??
i would rather keep my $98 dollars and spend it on something that may fix the issue, is there anyway i can get these codes checked out for something a little less harsh on the pocket??
cheers

Ouchh - bit steep!
If u have the repair books, they tell how to check, very easy. All u need is a thin pin, a needle etc and alligator clip cable. Earth the required connection and read err codes - engine symbol flashes on the dash, count the flashes.
Can't remember which terminal to be earthed, but refer to the book - mine is at home of course....
Somebody here might scan few pages and post (illegal re-production of course)?
I'd just rock up to your local dealer (real casual like) and just mention that you are having troubles to the service dept. See if they will get someone to quickly hook into the ECU (it only takes a minute).

seriously would only take a couple of mins to plug up and check at the most, so they should only charge you the 15 mins or 1/2 hour minimum... even still thats being real greedy!
when i finished the manual conversion, i got it towed to mitsubishi, they plugged it up and programmed it for free!

$98!!!!!!!!!
When people bring a PC in here for me to fix, I have a look at it on the desk, and if its a simple fix like 2minutes, then I just say there you go. No charge of course.
No wonder Ill never take my car to them.

Thats the way.
Even if you just identify the problem for the customer, your gonna help them out heaps...
...say if it's someone like me, who knows a lil a bout IT, but not too much, and I came into your store cause I couldn't get one of my IDE drives to work. You pop your head under the bonnet and say "You have the pins in the wrong place YOU FOOL".
So I go home and fix it, and then watch porn.
More businesses should be like that... a lot of electronics repair places charge just to look at stuff now.

I think you just need to find a decent Mitsu dealer.
I only deal with Newcastle Mitsu now because the blokes there know what they are on about. I rang Maitland Mitsu once to see if the had a spin-on filter for the AT in my KE and I had to tell the guy on the other end that
- Yes, it is an automatic
- The KE is a model of the Verada series
- Its a 4 speed (he asked if it was 5spd  )
- I was after the spin-on filter, on top of the tranny, below the airbox
I was on hold for like 5 minutes, I could hear him asking people for help, so I hung up, rang Newcastle, got a part number, and rang them back like 1 minute later, then when I gave them the number they didnt even have the part in stock anyway
So, the moral of the story is....
...........try calling another Mitsu.

Would think something simple that takes them a minute or two to do they should do for free.
After all, a lot of times if htey help you to identify the problem, then you are probably gonna give them the money to fix said problem.
They should consider it as generating business

Righto firstly you need to get a test lead( pic down the bottom), you know the ones with the earth clip and the spike end with the small globe that lights up when you poke a wire to see if there is current.
Also important note is make sure your battery is above 11 volts.
1. Locate the diagnostic connector located under your dash over near the centre consol (try laying down backrest of driver seat invert ones self and have a torch or headlamp at ready)
2. Earth test lead and place prong into number one on the Diagnostic Connector (see diagram 1 )
3. Turn the ignition on (don't start)
4. Watch your check engine light as this gives you the error codes in flashes. (Daigram error codes 1 & 2) If there are no errors ot should flash the 0 code which as it is on the digram a series of 9 quick flashes.
5.If there is more than one problem they will show up one after the othe from lowest to highest with a pause between each. Then a slightly longer pause and the sequence will begin again.
6. Try not to confuse one code with another (good to have a pencil to write down sequence of flashes being long and short flashes)
Cancelling Daignostic code
After the malfunctioning component has been repaired/renewed trouble codes should be canceled, otherwise they will show up with any new porblems codes that arise and will stay until canceled.
To accomplish this simply disconnect the negative terminal on your battery for a least ten seconds with the ignition off.
Caution: If audio system has anti-theft system have the code ready before you disconnect battery as your going to have to put it back in once you re-connect battery. And your will have to reset your clock if you have one.
If you have trouble finding the Diagnostic test connector let me know and i'll take a pic from where you would be looking
