Thought i should quickly introduce myself as i have just joined.
I am a single dad living on the gold coast and studying at griffith uni. I am now on my second tf and have begun doing a few minor mods. I have a white wagon and am in the process (as in i am right now waiting for the parts to dry) of recolouring my console and dial surround. I will be looking at getting the thing dropped but only slightly as i use the wagon for work and it is very much a daily driver/dads taxi. I have found the forums really useful on here and have been able to source all the info i need using searches so thanks all for the really informative posts (and there is heaps) on console removal and painting.
Other mods i plan are the usual initial stuff like paras, letterbox grille and possibly skirts and a new nose.
Once again thanks for all your past posts on mods etc
Cheers
Damian

I sort of sussed the search button pretty quick when i saw the number of posts and the wide range of topics.
Just finished reinstalling my console and other assorted plastic bits so i wil have to post some pics and get some opinions about a couple of things in particular.
Hoping to make it look nice not rice.
I am amazed how easy my tf is to work on.
Did brake pad and rotor change front and rear last week and it took no time at all. Riping the console out as well as a few other interior parts was simple too ( much aided by the posts i read before begining) and the best bit is it all went back together:bowrofl:

The colour is actually silver.
Quick questions
Should i paint the ashtray cover?
Should i paint the cig lighter surround??
Did i go too far in doing the air vents, too ricey???
My favourite bit is the button surround on the gear selector
Thanks

thanks matty j
Do you think i should repaint the dial surrounds black if i paint the other bit in front of the cluster silver. Was just thinking it may be a little too much silver.

Nah dont repaint the dial surrounds black again, looks good silver, i just think it looks better when its all painted, it wont be over the top, search " painted console " and you will see what i mean.
but then again its all personal preference, thats just my own opinion!!

This is a Nardi wheel i bought years ago for around $400. Do you think i should throw this in as well.I will need to buy a boss kit as it used to be on my rx7.
I have always thought most aftermarket wheels look a little strange on newer cars. They seem to look a bit scrawny compared to original. No airbag so no problem.
Anyone have pics of aftermarket wheels on their cars

Hi Mate and welcome.
Love the little painted bit on the gearstick! Never seen that before, but it sets off the console so much better than unpainted.
Enjoy your stay.

Hey, May i ask what paint you used and did it take long to take apart and assemble all the gear again after painting? Did u use a paint brush or like an air spray thing(sorry dont know what there called)
Thanks Jason

The paint i used is in a spray can "VHT Penetrating Colour Dye SP-946-a Silver Satin"
I dont think it would be wise to paint with a brush but i guess it depends what finish you are after. I didnt want a high gloss finish but definately wanted something better than a brush could give me.
Pulling apart and reinstalling the parts was really straightforward. I suggest you use the search function and you will find a really, I will save you time, Here is the link http://members.optusnet.com.au/miltonf/car/mitsu/console/stereoremoval.htm
Cant remember who originally posted it but they rock.
I simply pulled all the parts off, washed them in warm soapy water, Light sand with 1200 grade paper again using warm soapy water, Let them dry and spray the colour on directly. MINIMUM OF AROUND SIX LIGHT COATS Dont be in a rush
If i was using anything other than paint made specifically for plastic and vinyl i would have needed to spray a plastic primer but with this paint there is no need. I have bought two extra cans (it only took me one) so i can re do any parts that may scratch rather than having to re do the whole lot because i couldnt get a colour match.
If you need anymore info or help please dont hesitate.
Cheers
