Dear all,

My tp magna station carby has high revs before it changes to second gear, about 3000-3500, the rest of them sound allright, just in first.

Anyone any ideas,

Thanks alot

if your saying your auto wont change into 2nd until it hits revs of around 3000 or 3500, where the rest change normally, all i can recommend is an auto service by a technician. Good to do as preventative maintenance anyway.

I'd say the tps may need adjustment, also when did u last change the transmission fluid, i recommend the stuff that Mitsubishi sells($35), don't use dextron or ATF fluids that are used in rear wheel drive cars.

check the Throttle positon sensor
http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34112

or you have a problem with you transaxle control unit
located screwed to the floor pan below the radio console inside the car

undo the battery terminals for 10 minutes after checking the tps then reattach the terminals this resets the tcu computer

if the problem persits see you local auto transmission specialist

tcu only has rom in it... disconnecting the battery does nothing as the TCUs only power is through the ignition switch anyways.. the shift patterns are hard coded into rom.

This is interesting because my TP (carby) sedan has the same problem in all gears. It does change smoothly enough if I back right off.

I've tried setting the TPS as specified as well as at both ends of its adjustment range but that seems to make no difference at all. Fluid seems over-full, if anything.

Fluid being overfilled can have some effect on gear changing - but as I have found after changing the fluid in mine, it's well worth just completely draining and refilling it properly with mitsu fluid anyway. Mine was doing really slow changes that were very heavy and violent, but with the new fluid it's fast and smooth. It definitely helps with acceleration and fuel economy too.. 550k / tank with a tp sedan isn't bad at all, compared to the 470k it could get before i changed the fluid.

correct, there is nothing to be learnt on a gen1 tcu, so resetting aint gonna do ****
but to save your hassle manual conversion!!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but is that $35 per litre?

Thanks, that's a relief. Poverty is a real pain.
