Hi all,

Been having a problem lately with my 1999 KH Xi Verada.

Initially, it seemed that whenever it was hot weather, the left speakers kept cutting out and in all the time. (When cold, there was no problem at all).

As of last night however, the left speakers (I think it may be only be the rear left but not sure) started cracking and then cut out for good. Then, there was a high pitched whine that kept increasing in pitch from the speakers. Turned the radio/cd player off and it kept going. Turned the car off, and it STILL kept going.. Assumed that there was some residual power in the amp or something so locked the car and came inside.

I've just gone outside now to go to a mates place and the car wont start... Seems like the crackling was draining the power, even though the car was off..

I'm calling the RAA out (gotta justify paying the membership fees somehow!) to get the car started, and will pull the fuse on the radio to see if that helps for now.

Any idea what the problem is??

Thanks all,

Chris

Check on the bottom of the speaker in the boot that you haven't damaged the terminals, its most likely shorting. You probably did it when putting a large amount of stuff into the boot. Should be an easy fix.

Thanks mate, there was a dodgy connection there.. Fixing it stopped the crackling and hopefully the battery drain..

Now though, the left channel of the audio system no longer works :( Guess it blew a transistor or internal fuse perhaps. Time to search for a tute on how to open the dash up and remove the headunit, or perhaps the stock 6cd stackers the problem..

Cheers,
Chris
