What's people's view on the Alloy Core Radiator's I just installed a new one in my 92 TR Magna with the correct coolant mmmm red/pinky coolant from Nulon. So far the reason for me buying one was one I got it cheaper then the coper type two have been told the keep the engine a little more cooler the coper as they can disperse the heat better and three will last alot longer the the coper cores as long as the correct coolent is used designed for alloy core radiator's which I have done and i like the new color coolent as well. :)

if i may ask where did you get it and how much did it cost. is it magna specific to the tr/ts or is it generic. i like them plus with the better cooling efficiency the thermo fans dont go on as much and reduce the idle even more. (manual so idles at 750)

Well it's not genuine mitsubishi so it's generic I only paid $230 from Geelong Automotive Cooling.

That's the first thing I noticed when the revs came down and it took longer for the fans to kick in as well.

I asked the same question virtually a few weeks back and got very little response, so had to surf the net and it was just confusing, arguments over what has better cooling properties between alloy and Copper etc, arguments over the quality of the metals used etc, and no real outcome
I was looking at a generic aluminium radiator from ebay for $180.....general concesus was that I wouldn't get a good quality alloy one for that kind of money and the Koyo copper core for $240 was better.
Might get the Koyo early next year mainly because it's a brand name, and that it appears that alloy is not necessarily any better.,and a good quality one will be expensive.. but still interested in this thread

See my thread for more info on Aluminium ones (Alloy?)...

I got mine off ebay (there's more on there now).
So far no problems at all - in fact the car runs cooler (but then my old rad. was getting old).

...
I did some research with some of the local radiator places.
From what I've been told, the only brand to make an Aluminium Radiator for the TR/TS Magna (that they know of) is a brand called SSS. And sure enough, this one was a SSS Radiator.
Good point - Excellent Cooling. Better than stock ones.
Good point - Lighter. It was heaps lighter - pick up with one hand, no problems.
Bad point - Harder to repair if you get a hole (but the A/C radiator thingy is in front of it anyway).
Bad point - If you have an automatic - you will need to consider buying an aftermarket auto oil cooler as the one attached to the 'SSS' Aluminium Radiator is not very good. (there goes the savings) But not a problem for people like me with a manual.

Also with mine if you look into the radiator you will see that they don't have 2 rows of small cores but one row of large cores for much better flow.

oh **** man... be careful! you've overfilled the reservior bottle.. if you keep it like that you could do damage to your cooling system! Lol

So is that a remanufactured unit? or brand new?

Looks good. :D

It's a brand new unit

They sell on ebay for approx. $200 to $225 (including postage). Price for postage depends on where in Aust. you are. So your purchase for $230 seems to be around the right price. Is your's SSS brand (would have been on the box if you saw it - not sure if it's stamped on the rad. ?

Either way, I doubt you'll regret it. Mine's been good so far.

Last I saw they were $185 on eBay but I didn't like the auction listing as it had no discription of the radiator at all and I got nill response from the seller so a sale lost for that guy. Any I prefer to go local for something like that incase there is an issue it can be rectified asap. From what the Rad guy told me it's the same manufactura that sells them to the big auto compnay's in the new cars SSS so I gues it's a genuine part through the big guys and generic when it comes to the little guys go figure.

I had no problems with the seller - in fact he was quite helpful and asked me to get the Rad. pressure tested b4 placing it in the car so there would be no problems - and if there was he would replace it.
But as you said, if you can get it locally at a similar price - heaps better. I couldn't, so ebay was for me.
