hey every1
i went in 2 jb 2day and was after some goodies and the guy in there said if i cut the parcel shelf and my insurence mob found out about it the would write my car off and ifi was in an accident they wouldnt cover me, is this true or he has no idea about what he is saying

its ture that you are not allowed to cut the metal part of your parcel shelf
i dont know that the insurance company would ride your car off tho, if they found out

If you cut into the metal, it will be deemed unroadworthy, not a write off. You would need to get it fixed and re-engineered probably if you were given a defect.

use spacers, or even take the carpet off and [if its a flat parcel shelf?] use it as a template and make an mdf parcel shelf, screw it down and carpet it, bingo job done, [did this in my hk]

mmm, the 2nd gens have "cutouts"from the factory for 6x9
BOOYAH go the 2nd gens, I think my dad said his TE did too tho so :s

For the Adelaide boys, I work at Willshire Motor Trimmers.
We had an 03 Astra sedan in on Friday, and the previous (interstate) owner had fitted 6x9s on the rear parcel shelf.
He cut holes (fairly neatly, I must say); but sacrificed the child anchor points (two of - centre wasn't affected).
Regency knocked him back when he tried to get the car through for SA reg lol
People don't think.

ive been told that when cutting through the car body, its Ok if you dont touch any of the X style reinforcing. however if you do, insurance wont cover u. that correct?

You cut into the shelf Consider your car a write off.
Copper told me that when he looked at my parcel shelf.
Do not cut into the parcel shelf..Use spacers mate
