Ok my radiator is playing up, so question. Will the 2nd Gen, V6 Radiator fit in the 1st Gen shell? This means without mods or playing around. Just a straight switch. Possible? Cheers, Andy

will it fit, well u can make anything fit but it won't bolt-in without modding i beleve.
but with that said why don't u clean and maintain what u have before u worry about try different parts. now buy acting what due u mean. Is ur tp over heating? is there a block in ur radiator?
the radiator u have will do the job properly if maintained right.
I sat in brisbane's traffic for 4hrs on a hot day just after driving from coff habour and it didn't move over half. even averaging 800klm per day on our road trip out west didn't budge the temp needle.
if ur having problems just take out ur radiator and backflush it with the garden hose on full and replace the thermostat at the same time. then replace and re-fill 50 -50 with soft water(distilled) and good quality coolant /rust inhibitor (bs). if it dosen't work buy a new radiator and do the above every 6 months new radiator or not. but don't thik u'll need a new one unless there a bad blockage or it's really rusty.

Yeah sorry should have been clearer. Its leaking, not much, but it is. So im guessing its time to replace it. Am i right?
Its not overheating, yet. The temperature rises to normal quicker, but its hardly sits any higher. At the moment im only doing short trips just to be safe.

Can you even be sure the leak is in the radiator? If so there are some additives that do seem to work in the radiators to block small leaks. I had a pinhole leak in my radiator that I fixed using that stuff, and it hasn't leaked in 2 years since.
There are some differences between the radiators that will require some modding though. The second gen radiator is centre hose configuration, while first gen is side configuration; so the existing hoses won't even fit your engine. You'll have to get a hose for a second gen instead, and even then the length may be a bit different since the second gen engine is mounted in a slightly different position to allow for the larger intake. The actual mounting positions of the radiator as far as I know are slightly different too.
Personally I'd just look around for a reconditioned first gen one, or even just look at getting it repaired by a radiator place. Much easier job to do. As smooth2 said, if the temperature is rising, try reverse flushing the radiator and changing thermostat. Both those things should help with the cooling efficiency to improve it. If the leak is small and is in the radiator, then additives may help.

if you only have pin hole leaks do what the bush mechanics do , sprinkle a little cracked black pepper in the top of the radiator and then save for a new one:D ebay sells new one's for about $250 if u want to spent that much. thats what id buy if mine went, but i figure pay once properly then as long as u maintain it will last along time. Or a cheapy for the wreckers , well that's if u intend to get another anyway.

Mark the leek, heat it up with an oxy torch then either poor lead over it(poor mans) or get some solder wire and solder the hole shut.

I Offered Andy a spare radiator i have at home, but i have no clue as to what condition it is in. Its 2nd hand and thats all i know.
Andy i would try some Chem-i Weld or Metallic Seal up first, Its about $10 a bottle.
Im sure your dad would be willing to help?

mmmm... might be $10 now but $1000 later, chemi welds BADBAD stuff, ****ed over everything in my other car, blocked up the heater, the water pump, even blocked up every port in the headgaskit!!
