I just brought a $90 1500W polisher machine and would like advice on what to use to cut and polish my magna before i attempt to do it. I also have a tin of Polyglaze Cut & polish.

First of all throw that stuff out, it'll be useless.
Go over your car with a Claybar first

Then use Meg's Swirl remover 2.0 first and see how the paint comes up after that.
If there are deeper swirls, The use Meg's Fine Cut which is a heavier Grade cut.
I have used www.waxit.com.au
and www.finalinspection.com.au before and they are both awesome websites run by awesome people

Remeber only use foam Pads. And wipe off excess with a microfibre cloth.
Ive used both those meg's products before and i find them OK for the money. They are about $25 a bottle.
Pads you can get off the shelf at Rice-o-Barn for about $20 a pad, and id grab 2- of those, 1 for light cutting, 1 for polishing.

After that Use a Good polish and give it a wax.
With a white car Polishing and waxing wont bring up so much the depth but give it a really nice shine which is what your after.

I have no idea what I'm looking at on those sites that are going to help me use my polisher ??? I got it cuase it's quick and easy I just need some advice on either what products are better, how to apply them and some tips.

If you want to wreck your car use a cut & polish. Use just a normal polish on your car because it has a clear coat and you don't want a cutting compound like a cut & polish to remove that.

I know someone who used a cut and polish on their 2nd gen, and the entire area that they used it on went all white and dull - on a green car not a good look.

Claybar is good.
Polish is good
Wax is good

Cut & polish I'd avoid.

After going through this decision a few weeks ago I decided to use a regular polish and it came up very good - I applied it by hand.

Polishing a car by hand is not difficult - I can do it thoroughly in about 30 minutes. Generally you'll get a better result polishing your car by hand if you're an amateur as opposed to using a machine - the same cannot be said for a professional (machines are better if done correctly).

This is just a once off for the cut and polish and after that it will only be polished every few months with the buffer on it's low speed as it's easier for me with my arthritis and I'm sick and tired of hiring a guy to do it for me.

Every few months all it will need is a good wax and when you think right give it a sealant.

Use the buffer on low speed for the cutting compound and gradually increase speed bit by bit (i usually have it on around 3/4ths speed)

Once you do an area buff it off with a microfibre and move on to the next area.
Work up and down with the buffer, The do that same area again but side by side.

Well clearly someone didn't do the job properly... or has no idea how to use an orbital sander/polisher
i have done it on my whole car and it came up an absolute treat :)
Cut and polish will only take off a smidgin of clear coat... not enough too even worry about...
i have even done the boot of my car with 2000 grade paper 2 take out swirls then a light cut and polish and then a wax... came up great... dont know where this white and dull comes in?...me thinks they amatuer and didn't know what they were doing...

but yeh if you are going to use an orbital polisher.. make sure you know what you are doing MagnaAussie... please :pray: or as blackjack said... you may ruin the paintwork if you are not versed on how to do it correctly..

Its not 'that' easy to harm your paint with an orbital machine, unless you're really stupid/negligent... but a rotary machine on the other hand can do quite a bit of damage in the wrong hands.

Remember... the term 'Cut & polish' is not referring to a product, its referring to a process. You cut the surface to remove old paint, then you polish it to bring out depth/shine. You dont buy a tin of "CUT 'n' POLISH" expecting it to do the same thing. Might aswell go rub some sand and soap on a rag into your paint.. you'll get the same finish.

Theres no reason to avoid cutting the car, unless it doesn't need to be done...

Your car is white, right? Probably the best thing to do is this (in order):

-Wash car thoroughly with diluted dishwashing solution.
-Claybar.
-Buff paint with Megs swirl remover 2.0 (or something of similar abrasiveness).
-Wash car again to remove product residue.
-Seal with megs deep crystal polish.
-'Optional' coat of megs carnauba wax for much added wet look & protection.

Thats the cheapest and simplest process to get a decent result.

I haven't waxed my magna since I brought it cause when I did try it felt a little rough as I only found out last week it did have a spray job on one of the rear doors so over spray most be on the car from a panel shop. I did a test patch on the boot and it came up a treat with just a light rub.

One thing I need to ask the polisher I brought came with only one lambs wool buffer pad do I need to but another one for applying the cut & polish. ?

Yeh a good clay should be able to remove most of the overspray mate.

Dont use the lambswool pads. Get some foam ones :D

Ok will get a foam pad for the buffer disk to apply the cut & polish.
I applyed the cut & polish by hand with the small foam pad it came with then used the polisher to buff it off on the back end of the car it came up a treat can't wait to do the whole car.

how about Meguiars Speed Detailer or Quick detailer? anyone know anything about that stuff>? or anything of the sort. ive been told a number of times that cut n polish is no good for the paint job so im lookin for something better to use...

I can understand not to cut & polish too often and I would only suggest doing so if you have a slite haze to the paint when looking onto it from an angle like mine is so once you do it don't do it again unless the haze comes back witch won't happen to me I hope as the magna is now under a very shady long carport were my falcon once stood and it kept a nice paint since I brought that 6 years ago.
