seeing you've got a "spare" motor, i'd buy an engine stand and build it up slowly over time, properly. buy things as you can afford them and not skimp by rushing and getting inferior products.
only decision, do you want to stay N/A, or go turbo or supercharged? :D
i'd recommend some 380 internals with a big single turbo just for massive kW numbers :D

Wedge the crank.
Lighten the conrods.
Go flat top pistons.
Uprated rings.
Cam ... yeah.
C/R stay under 10... with the fuels these days its best to run on the safe side.

Yeah be like booyya, spend 50k and get a mid 14 second car in the end.
Go turbo, or its a complete waste of money.

Autospeed had an article on turboing a 3.5L magna engine for a dune buggy (IIRC) pretty interesting stuff.

Yeah that was a little disappointing, bit it was a 3.0L too. I know that a few of the TJ Sports/VRX guys have ventured into the 14.5-14.7 bracket with pretty much stock cars.
I'd go for a turbocharged setup too if you want big power.

Except he never actually ran faster then a 15 flat .... not once ever recorded breaking the 15 second bracket.
