In english, whats involved in changing the valve stems myself? Would you say its a hard job? Do I need any special tools?

Unless you have done this sort of work get it done. If you drop a valve then you will have to remove the heads.
I did do a write up some time ago here so if you de a search you may find it.
It was quite extensive, I wil be doing mine soon however I will be removing the engine and trans for a good scrub and also to replace rear oil seal, is not leaking yet but want to get toit before it does
