Hello party people!

Okay, another one of my bright ideas.
Because the TS is just sitting there, and I have a nice crack on my windscreen, to save me the cost of a new windscreen (and save one from going to waste), would I be able to take the windscreen off the TS and put it onto my car? Or do I need some special type of glue?
I don't think it would be that hard!

Or would it be?

Any help on this would be really appreciated :)

most windscreens will crack when they're removed from the car, unless youre very careful.

then you'd have to strip all the glue from the window aswell as cleaning up around the glue on the body.

i fit hundreds of windows to commodores on the production line every day. the eurothane glue that is used is CRAZY strong, kinda rubberish.

Really?
Wow, while you're here could you please help me with this?

I have a few questions:

Looking at the workshop manual it says you can use Bostik Autoseal 130 FC-LV.
Is this all I need to seal the windscreen? Can i purchase this from bunnings?
Is there any drilling or soldering to do when taking off and replacing a windscreen?

I know you have to use a cutting wire to help with removing the windscreen from the adhesive, do I just reverse the removal process when installing the replacement?

Thanks for the help

not sure where you can buy the glue, but it will most likely be the only thing holding the window in. (Holden gets it in massive barrels! i think we waste about $500 every time a new one is fitted to the robot, just to purge out all the air bubbles!)

will have to remove the wipers/plenum assembly aswell, but i'm not 100% familiar with the setup on the 2nd gens.

seeing you're using a 2nd hand window, you'll need some paint-on glass primer aswell. not sure of the name but i can check at work tomorrow, other than that theres no prep-work to the car, just make sure the old glue is removed and the surface is clean

Oh thanks a lot hehe
Much appriciated :)

So paint-on glass primer, and the glue for the window is what I need hehe
And take off the wipers and that's it!

The big problem will be to remove the good screen from the donor car.

The risk is that the tool used to cut the adhesive away will touch and nick the edge of the glass. As soon as you try and move the glass, or when it is stressed after being glued back in, a crack will rapidly propogate from the damaged edge.

I was involved in the change from the original 60's design transit to the 80's one where one of the changes was to change to a bonded in windscreen, robot applicator system etc. etc.
Laminated glass is verrry delicate until it is installed.
