NO......it's not for me, I gave up smoking 2 years ago......it's for the guy in the boot with the shovels to light up while we drive out to the forrest.....I'm not a completely cold hearted bastard. I could also use it to run my new car fridge.
Here's the question......I would prefer to install a socket in the boot that can run the fridge off constant power......would it be OK to splice into an existing constant power wire (the boot lamp for example) or would it be advisable to run new wiring all the way to the boot.

New wiring absolutely with the appropriate fuse in line.

Depends on power consumption... Definetly not the boot light wiring as its not designed for high current draw that alrge lights will draw

The stock ciggy lighter is a better option, if you have any car audio/amps in the boot that is probably a better option as well.

It might be a tad excessive to run a full new run from the battery just to run a 12v socket. And will probably be messy as well as you'll have to go through the firewall.

Check the size of the fuse on the stock Ciggy Lighter. You want to match that if possible and just find a fused line with approx the same rating

I've done it already: http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?p=566276#post566276

I've put one of the same plugs in the boot of Dad's TF Altera sedan as well. He runs a car fridge too.

Works like a charm :-)

My wagon had one in the boot, looked stock ?If you are talking about a TS wagon, don't think it would be stock, 'cause I don't have one, and haven't seen one in any wrecks.

I'm looking at putting one in shortly for a certain project I am working on, but it would need to run from constant power, not ciggie, which only runs when accessories is on. I need power when I'm not in the car, so obviously I don't want the key left in the ignition! :D
My project should be reasonably low drain, and only be for maybe 2hrs at a time before the engine is used again.
