Okay. I'm gonna get my windows tinted but the driver's glass was scratched so I organised to get it replaced. Replaced and sorted but the guy said that it has actually been tinted and that's what had scratched. I'm going to get the darkest legal tint but this raises some questions. Obviously the untinted glass is lighter so it needs doing anyway but can I peel off the tint from the other windows? The current stuff couldn't be the darkest legal tint.

Also, what's your suggestions on the type of tint. I don't want stuff that will fade and I'm not interested in those mirror finishes. I like Drivers tint.

The tint guys should remove the old tint for you, but they'll prolly charge you extra for the labour.
The darkest legal is T35... I have it on both my Magna & my Lancer... it's dark enuff so's u can see straight inside, & I don't think tint fades for a LONG time anyways.

I got tint the other day, no idea waht its called, and apparently its darkest legal (but not the most UV resistant and that)

Get metallised, and ive heard 3M can do "carbon" tinting, they are both supposed not to fade. My tints guaranteed not to fade, if it does they will do it again. I can see inside my car just, because of the light coming in the front, but to see whats no my front seat i have to go right up and look right in.

My tints 1 day old so it still has to dry out... fun

my tints are the darkest legal except the back which is 1,2 or 3 darker than legal, but they look pretty cool i reckon

Get T18.. Brother has it on his MR2.. Cannot see inside it at night.. Actually, The only thing you do see, is his alarm LED flashing.. :D

I suggest going for either the Eclipse T35 or the 3M T35 Tints on your Magna.. as cops will be pulling you over soon, seeing as you have so much "power" that you can spin em up at 100k in 5th :lol:

Ok.. obviously 35% is the darkest legal tint.

What you are after in terms of non fade tint is a Metallised Film.

Ask for darkest legal Metallised Tint. Also make sure you have lifetime warranty on bubbles, cracks, peeling, fade etc etc.

I went to Instant Windscreens (http://www.instantwin.com.au/)

They have a discount voucher on the front of their website that you can take in to any of their stores.

If you goto this part of the site (http://www.instantwin.com.au/Tinting.html), you can read up on the types of Film thats used, the UV ratings etc etc.

My tint is 20% (http://members.optusnet.com.au/miltonf/vrx.jpg) just so you know how dark it is. They will do this for you as its NOT ILLEGAL for them to put it on the car!

That's a tidy VR-X, Bain. Thanks for that. Have you lowered it? If so, what springs? Did you swap the shocks?

Aye its been lowered. Bought some King Springs Super Lows (front) and lows (back)

$250 for complete set or $125 front and $125 back.

Same shocks. The vr-x comes with Monroe GT sports Gas shocks.. So it says on the shocks :)

Hmm... interesting balance of springs. Probably helps the launches a little. I've got these 40mm springs ready to go but I'm keen to swap them for the SP ones, (30mm), as a mate says his are too low after sagging. Wonder if it's worth doing what you did.

Popped down to Tint Mart today. Looks like the tint I had was a dye based one and had faded. The metalised one they suggest as their good one is Infinity Window Film. Anyone have any comments on this stuff?

Here's the jazz from their site.

* Multiple layers of exotic metals are deposited upon a space age flexible & ultra hard scratch resistant film to create the most desirable window tint ever
* Ultra sleek appearance
* 65 % heat reduction
* 99.9 % UV Block out
* Extreme heat reduction
* Lifetime Australia wide warranty

Sounds like some nice tint. I believe this is also called Sputtered Tinting.. Where it gives off different colours and stuff. Great UV Block out too! (im actually planning on getting my front window tinted (taken out and tinted that is) with a 75% tint which is still legal to stop UV from wrecking the interior of the car.

What sort of car does your friend drive? How old are his shocks? My car sits 110mm off the group at its lowest point (from memory). I get no scrubbing from the wheels, even at full wheel turn lock. Dont forget that that mine has side flares on the car which sit 1cm lower than any of the cars without the flare guards.

Don't think we're allowed to tint the whole front window. Think it's 10cm at the top and that's it.

He's got a TF too. His springs are probably close to a year too but I think he's got the orig shocks which I think might not help but I though that the springs are what held the car up and shocks only are working when the springs are compressing. I've got new KYB's sitting here ready to go in.

And I want those flares too!

I also run a 20% Metallic based tint on my cars which I get fitted by PROTEC in Perth, he normally charges $200-220 per vehicle and does an excellent job ;)

Metallic based tints will not go purple, this is the Cellulose based tints....some Factory tints are still cellulose based as they do not interfere with radio reception (especially when aerial is mounted in rear window)

I have NEVER had any trouble with police with 20% tint, this includes taking 2 cars over the pits.....but yes technically it is illegal.

Removing old tint is done with a steam gun, costs around $20 extra.

Useless fact: ALL Tint film in Australia is made in the USA ;)

This is a 20% tint....not stupidly dark....but does offer great privacy ;)

This is a legal tint on my Magna from a similar angle under similar light conditions, difference is definately noticeable, as is heat reduction.

Magnas tint will be replaced ;)
