yea i'm in the position of wanting to upgrade, so to speak, my be considered a downgrade for some, from a single 12 to two 10's, the reason for two 10's rather then a single 10, is for show, two 10's look better then a single,
so i want people advice on what type of sub brands to listen to
also i wont be DIY, so i need to ask for the right size enclosuer, i listen to alot of hard trance, so i'm looking for a sharp punch, but i would like to be able to a spl type level of bass, i guess that would be control by the subwoofer vol control on my head unit?
i was looking at two alpine type r's 10s, but from these forums alpine tend to over charge?

yeah go alpine mate:)
r types go great for lots of bass
depending on wat money you have, personaly i would go 2 x 12 inch but 10 inch subs are alright
dont let other ppl con you into other brands if you want alpine get them you wont be disapointed:D
and yeap subwoofer control can be adjusted on the headunit refer to the manual.
JL's in a smallish box is my favourite; but if you are going for show, buy whatever looks good

well my budget would be around the 1000$ mark (can be stretched if needed), but i need installation to come under, and i refuse to go to jb or stratty, there sacks of crap
and when i say show i meant as in look two subs instead of one, not the actual look of the sub, i a tight punch sound from the woofers
Ok, I like JL's for that tight punch, we always used the box size recommended by JL. It used to seem like a small cubic area, but never failed ( haven't been done this for a while so I assume it is still the case) Will be good to know the outcome.

What budget???????
I'd go a diamond audio TDX 10, other than that listen to Image Dynamics, Treo
For SPL: Digital Designs, Earthquake etc.
Im not a big fan of alpine drivers, but budget will dictate what you can get. Best bet is to listen to a lot of subs with music you know installed into cars. Demo boards are usually all ported and poorly tuned.
AS you probably already know If you are after good sound its much better to get 1 'great' woofer over 2 lesser quality woofers. But if you're going for show then 2 subs (albeit small) may be the shot.
Peace

my budget would be around 1000 buckos, but can be stretched, preferbly no further then 1500, but i need installation and box construction cost, cause i'm not a diy type of guy

not so much looking for spl, i want a nice tight punch, but have the ablitiy to over kill the bass in the car for those times when i just want to break out in bass
cant find a much tighter punch then JL 10W6's, which are within your budget :)
they are fantactic subs that utterly left my breathless. i was worried that it was going to be quiet as hell when i handed over the cash for it, and when i got it in the car i couldnt believe it.
fastest response from a sub ive ever heard (in a ported enclosure too), and the single 10 is good for about 135dB in a magna, firing backwards, with the cabin sealed off from it :)
by all means go audition some other subs, but this gets my #1 vote, and ive auditioned (and used) some pretty high end subs before it.
gl on the decision and let us know how it turns out :)
regards,
Damon
