Hi Guys i am pretty new to the board and would like to say that this is one of the most helpful sites on Magnas and Veradas.
Anyway. I am experiencing not so much a problem, but when for example i am cruising along at 60 - 70kms and it is in 3rd gear and wants to select 4th it sort of hesitates and then shifts into but not smoothly, a little harsh.
Does anyone know what this problem could be?
Your views and assistance are greatly appreciated.
Thanks

This might sound a little odd but the magna auto boxes tend to play up when they are in need of a service.
Harsh shifting and sluggishness can 8 times outa 10 be solved by replacing the oil and filter with GENUINE mitsubishi items. Make sure you use genuine parts for this one, don't skimp on them :D
This happened in mine a while back, since i have it serviced its running like a dream :D

It should be taken car of under the warranty you have when you purchased the car, If I remember correctly you only bought the car a few months ago? They will probably just reset your ECU and give it back to you, hopefully then it should work a treat.

best to get an oil change rather than just re-setting the ECU - i agree with AM - an oil change is probably 80% probability of fixing your problem.
And yes - you have to use the Mitsu Auto Tranny Fluid as other Auto Tranny Fluids damage the Magna Gearbox

the 'genuine' mitsu stuff is actually castrol ATF TQ, maybe with negligible differences. this was what i was told by the mitsu parts guy. i buy castrol ATF TQ off-the-shelf from supercheap. no problems at all.
an auto flush is bloody expensive. most mechanics don't do manual flushes, which in my opinion although not a thorough flush, is good enough and much more economically viable. expect to pay about $180 @ mitsu. maybe slightly cheaper at ultratune, midas etc. and oh yes, if you are paying $180 @ mitsu, makes sure those morons change the ATF filter. you are ENTITLED to it. the last time i did mine, i called them up before i brought the car in and asked if it included the ATF filter change. they said YES. when i got my car back, i popped the bonnet and the old filter still sat there. i rang them up the next day and demanded they put in the new filter, even though they said mine was still in good condition.

Thanks Guys for your views on this topic.
I called Ultra Tune today and they said $140
I then called A local Mitsubishi Dealer and they said $170.
I am going to call a local Transmission Specialist and ask him in the morning how much he charges.
Do you guys advise me to go genuine dealer and pay the little extra or not?
Thanks
John

don't need no 'genuine' dealer to do this job my man. they just connect it to a machine and let it do its job. in the process, it consumes 3-5 times the amount of ATF a manual flush would need while they sit back and rest their feet on the machine. so, you are basically paying abt $60 for the awfully huge amount of ATF wasted and another $100 for them to connect some hoses and press a couple of buttons. true the machine flush is much better as it clears all the impurities and you get 100% fresh ATF. but don't know... just doesn't make sense to me. a manual flush would do, if you can find someone honest and willing to do it. and just bring forward the next ATF change if it's a manual flush.
ultratune charges $140 but that prob excludes the filter. check with them.
