You may remember I had an issue with my transmission a while ago where it would go into limp mode and then sometimes be normal when i started it up.

I fixed this problem by putting in a new TCU and it was all good.

BUT....im having the same problem again...only worse...the transmission keeps going into limp mode and normal again WHILE DRIVING!!

So what happens is, that ill be reving it in limp mode to try to get the car to move and next thing you know...the transmission will be in like 1st gear with a huge surge of power, which will cause a huge thud.

Ive taken it to the auto transmission specialist and they couldnt figure it out because they couldnt get the tcu to communicate with their machine. Ive also taken it to the auto electrician thinking it could be an electrical problem but he doesnt think so.

I was going to take it somewhere else 15 minutes ago, but I needed petrol so I filled up on the way. When I got back into my car and turned it on the car was in limp mode but soon started to switch. I had moved 1 metre when it switched back and forth so rappidly that the car was really shaking so hard that everyone at the petrol station spotted to look and were ****ting themselves, and then the car just died.

Any ideas??

P.s. I have a kr verada with a dohc conversion.
Could it just be that the ********s that did my wiring really ****ed things up and now theres an electrical problem?

Thanks

Are you sure the auto can handle the power from the DOHC?
Is the TCU setup for your new engine config?
It could be an intermittent sensor playing up, could be the actual transmission on it's way out.
My advice is go to another transmission expert.

Sorry...I should have mentioned that I had the transmission rebuilt before putting the DOHC in...

TCU will go into limp mode if it detects something wrong in the system. My guess is, if there's no actual damage to the gearbox, it has to be a sensor or something that sends a signal to the TCU not working with the box properly.
I'm no transmission expert so i can't help you on that one.

Get a sparky to have a look at the electricals. The TCU may be getting a nasty shock now
and then sending it into limp mode. The fact that its ok after a restart means the problem
is not permanant. The TCU in my old KS will go into limp mode for no reason, took it to
mitsubishi and they couldn't work it out. One day, coming back from a trip to Moonta Bay,
it died 30kays North of Gawler. Had to get it towed back. Replaced the TCU and was still
having the TCU going into limp mode occasionally and then a few days later the alternator
died. Replaced that and the problem with the TCU going into limp mode went away. The
auto sparky suspected the alternator was shorting the TCU sending it to limp mode. Went
back to the mitsu service centre and told them what the auto sparky said and they
couldn't believe that the TCU problem was caused by the faulty alternator.

Would changing the spark plugs woithout changing the leads cause something like this?
Because I read somewhere that some guy had a problem similar to this and he later found out that he had a secondary ignition problem because he did not change leads and plugs at the same time and this affected his TCU.

He probably had faulty leads. I've never had leads changed when going for services, only
spark plugs.

If the TCU wouldn't communicate withthe auto mechs machinery (ie, not working properly ) then wouldn't you (and the auto transmission guy) assume that it was the TCU.

Nah...they said that its common for their machine to have problems communicating with mitsubishis.....

we've worked out that the solenoid is coming on and off...but dont know the cause yet...could be a wiring issue or the tcu.....only problem is that they're off for xmas until 8th of january :(
