Just wondering where people got the power wire for the amp through the fire wall? As I need to get 4 gauge power wire through the firewall and to the fuse holder near the battery? Anyone able to help? Manual?

Go back through this forum and check out the plethora of threads on this topic. Most people seem to go through a grommet on the passenger side behind the glovebox. I was lucky enough to find a hole that had been drilled and sealed over near the clutch, but it looks like the people who installed the alarm did this (which was before I got the car).

In fact, I remember reading a really good post with pics on this topic. Anybody got a link to that?

Found it. Check out the thread called "wiring an amp?". There's a link to a page with some good photos of the whole procedure.

Good luck dude.

There is a rubber lug that a lot of electrical components come through on the passenger side of the car - it comes through behind the condensor/ECU in the dash etc.

I'm sure it's not ideal to run a power cable too close to the ECU and the wiring of the car, however I'm running 4 guage through for a 2-amp setup this way (then following through to the boot) with no problems so far. I'll be changing this shortly and going through the wheel arch instead to stay away from the ECU however, I'd recommend this as a better option.

Cheers,
Adam

If you have a look behind your middle console down near the drivers foot well you will see a big grommet you can put it through. Than you can run the wire up behind the fire retardant wooly stuff in your engine bay. Ill post a picture tonight for you.

i will throw a few pics up tonight as well as to where i have put mine - really easy to do - it is an elbow grommet near the centre of the car near the bottom of the firewall - i have run 4 gauge through it in my car and 8 gauge through it in various other cars for stereos to on ill effect.

i put another small hole off to the side in the grommet for the steering column. then i jammed the much larger 4awg thru. seals up nice and tight.

as long as you dont coil the cable around the others and it has decent sheilding it should be fine, remember the car itself creates a fair bit of interference so the ecu and all its imputs should be rather well sheilded and tested

some pics.

Grommet is next to the foot rest on the drivers side.

In the firewall pic. The little whole in the whooly stuff is what i used to pull the cable up. Then i fed it across to the right to the battery (behind the whooly stuff)

Behind the drivers footrest..

After taking a look there.. I can take it through there.. but isn't there a gromit closer to the battery side where I could place the wire out of?

ok, i looked at my car today

(dumb question) what exactly is the grommet in the photo? is it that big black thing thats running into the wall with two bolts next to it?

anywayz, as to feeding it through the firewall, to the wolly stuff, do u drill a hole in the black thing so that u can actually see the drill bit come out the other side?? or attempt to yank it out? how does it go all the way to the top of the the engine bay (hole in the wolly stuff) since the grommet and holen is so low? how do u feed it through?

Has been posted many times before, but here's a full description on how I did mine....

http://members.iinet.net.au/~allenc/TechTips/firewall.html

I removed the air filter etc just to give a bit more room to move and to take photos, but if you can get in there without having to do that then go for it. But as you'll see from the pics and explanations, there is only a couple of clips and 1 screw holding that whole section in there, and takes literally less than 2 minutes to remove and put back in.

And before anyone asks why I have two cables running through instead of just running 1 cable through and having a distribution block, its because I bought the two amps I have at different times and the second wiring kit was thrown in for free, so I wasn't going to have to pay for a new wiring kit/distro block etc.

Have fun now.... :D

ok, i had a look today. someone told me that u can put a hole where the clutch was meant to be (since i have an auto) i looked there today, and to my surprise, someone's already drilled a hole there! its currently filled with black silicone stuff and its also covered in silicone in the engine bay. You can see the engine bay if u look into the hole at the right angle  anywayz, that hard bit is done for me now. what if i wanted to make it wider? do i need like a 30cm drill bit to do it?
