Well, i've got a bit of a pickle.. as of late i've had a new head unit and speakers installed in my car, now, i don't know if this is what has cause anything, but these weird things have only been happening since that was put in. The day after i got it, my battery went flat, and i couln't start my car - take normal proceedure, get it jump started and drive around for about 45 mins with nothing on and left the car running for about anoter 45 mins. However now things seem to be playing up, the head unit volume keeps going down and sometimes the music cuts out, sometimes it resets itself and sometimes turns completly off.. now i'd usually think that this would just be a faulty head unit (no probs its all under warranty) however, something that i noticed as this was happening, is that it was commonly happening while i was waiting at a set of lights, air con on full power and stereo turned up quite loud. Now, as my stereo cuts out, i also notice the "TLC OFF" light come up on my dash and also my "ANTI BREAK" light come on. To add, the air con fan is blowing softer... As i put my foot on the accel the lights go off and the fan comes back at full strength - i have to manually turn the HU back on though.
So I wonder, would this be the HU playing up with things, wired incorrectly? or would my battery be died? (only 12 mnths old) or perhaps its my altinator? any ideas?

If you just installed the gear and it started then i'd be pretty sure that it has something to do with that.
Unless... during the installation the battery was drained flat a few times so it could be battery related.
Best bet would be to take it back and get them to check it all under warranty.

sorry to invade the thread,
my problem is similar:
got a jvc dvd player installed into my car about a week or two ago and things have started to be going wrong.
as it is meant to the screen brightness dulls down when you have your lights on at night(no problem here)
(the problem) lately when i have been coming up to a corner and indicating and braking, the screen brightness keep flashing on and off(like i have been turning the lights on and off).
this makes me think that maybe the connection between the head unit and the lights/indicator switch is loose.
the only other thing i can think of is that my battery or alternator is playing up.
any help appreciated.
cheers

sounds like a faulty h/u
could also be that the wiring wasnt connected properly
recheck your wires and also try another battery

in this case sounds like your illumination wire from the deck has been connected to your lights hence why the screen is dimming when you turn your lights on

lol yeh we figured that much, that's what it's suppose to do and is not the problem. The problem he is saying is the screen flashes with the indicator.
I couldn't imagine the indicators draining so much power that there is a lack of power going to the screen, unless the wire they've used is too thin for the screen and is somehow connected to the same circuit as the indicators.
Righty - Sounds like the electrics can't handle the load. Could be either a faulty battery or alternator, as i know these can effect other electric systems in the car. They are pretty easy to check, autobarn do a free check.

if its connected to the same wire to the lights on the cluster then yes the screen will dim if the indicator is on, happened in my old car the "check engine" light came on sometimes and when i had the indicator on it would dim everytime the indicator light came on, so i dont know might be the same in this case

Ahhh, well in that case the wire isn't thick enough going to the screen.

Sounds like bad wiring..as in REALLY BAD = Dangerous.
I would guess the installer needed a wire for a certain feature, didn't know what colour to use, so just used whatever.
Pull it apart, get an Aerpro harness for $30, and you'll have no dramas. :D
Check wiring with this.

Haha well that explains everything. Take your car back and complain dude. Tell them all this stuff didn't happen until after they installed it. Make them pay!
