 i know that there are a couple of good, honest mechanics out there so i don't mean any offence to you when i generalise in this rant...

getting fed up with all the bullsh!t that i keep gettin from mechanics i've dealt with lately, with pricing and work, to mention a few things, putting green dye in water to make "coolant" using cheap oil, masking problems, chargin $500 to lower and than $235 for part, $200 to lower = $435  re-wiring the front dash wrong so half the stuff on it isn't operating properly, breaking air conditioning, puttin scratches on doors, breaking interior plastics:rant:

just really starting to pss me off that everywhere i've been i have been f@cked over, and i'm no stupid *****, i always check up on everything after each service, i can tell when dodgies are been pulled on me.

what has ignited this rant is that on wednesday i left the car a the dealer for used car warranty repair because the valves are making that tappin sound as common with the 3.5's. go it back at the end of today and the said the timing belt just needed to be lubricated and that its working well now, i'm thinking, doesn't sound possible, i'll just pick it up, when i got home, i parked the car n went for a looksee as i do affter every service, bloody thing is still tapping, really can't be bothered with there sh!t anymore:rant: want to do DIY most of it but that involves time and tools which either i don't have much off.

any bad experiences have you guys had?

=calming down slooowwly=

2 days ago a mechanic charged me $85 for a timing belt and $150 to install the bastard...

He even had the nerve to give me $20 change from $150...

Luckily I corrected his mistake and gave him another $5 in change.

Peace

Tim

i know exactly how ya feel.

adding green dye to water to make coolant????? thats the dodgiest thing ive ever heard.

anyways, i took my 2nd gen to a mechanic to have both the driveshafts changed. 3 hours later i go to pickup my car and he tells me he changed the engine mounts.. WTF  . so he says, thatll be $300, so i say, that'll be free thanx, i asked you to change the Driveshafts not the Engine mounts... i won, :bowrofl: free engine mounts for me!! never going back to him again! :gtfo:

Why the hell would they lubricate the timming belt??? I thought it was a no no doing this? My understanding the belt should be free of grease, oil water etc?

I wonder if he has actually shortened the life of the timming belt by doing this? Better ask more questions in regards to what he did cause it could turn out into a bigger mess later on..

I'm not going to start, but yes I've had a great share amount of problems a mechanic in the last 7 months. It all started off as a timing belt change and it all goes downhill from there. Unfortunately I can't do anything about it legally either after consulting for some legal advice.

All I can say is I've always hated mechanics (even before this incident) and I will continue to hate them.

What I will do now is stick to workshops with MTA memberships, but even that doesn't mean a guaranteed foolproof work from the workshop. I'll be avoiding recommendations from mates and I'll make my own judgement (which I should have done in the first place). I'll be getting everything on paper and prices before the job is completed as well.

It seems in todays world to get anything done properly its all about bribing

Found him in the yellow pages, but he's retired and is moving overseas :( Wish I found him earlier... Oh well pays to shop around.

Just like the 4 x spark leads that cost my mrs $300 :doubt:....
Yeh there can be dodgy ones, and there can be fantastic ones. Pays to talk to them first, get a free diagnosis BEFORE you actually book the car in. Make sure they understand that you want to be notified of all work done and cost BEFORE it's done. I'm pretty sure as a buyer we have that right so there's no surprises.

the timing belt pulleys not the actual belt is what they probably meant, but i'll get through to em, whats worse is that i have to delay my mods so my warranty isn't void grrrr
