Go for it, will cost you about $50 in paint (if you get the high quality stuff) and about a days work.
Some pics and a summary of when I did mine a couple months ago:

Haha man just take a stab at it yourself, I'd never taken the console apart or used a spray can in my life before I did this job, just take your time and do it properly with really light coats and you'll be fine.
Cheers and good luck!

Thanks man i will take a stab at it next week and i hope to god i dont stuff it up LMAO

if you stuff it up you can always sand it back and start again
maybe go out to your local wrecker and pick up any bit from the dash and practice on that

Yeah thats what Millert85 did ... He got a second set of the dash from the wreckers ... so that if it didn't look any good he could swap it back and also when he goes to sell it later down the track and put the stock stuff back in :)

I called this place called magna wreck and they said I will cost $200 for the whole thing, then I looked on e-bay and each different section of the console was about $20 each so im saving about $120 if I **** up :bowrofl:
But i might just bight the bullet and do it without the second set, I will try with the little black inserts on the front bar so if I stuff up I will re spray them black so no big loss there.
its easy to get the colour looking spot on.. its making it last thats the difficult part, just make sure you get yourself a good 2-pack clear coat, and do 2-3 coats, and itll be tough enough to stand up to every day wear n tear :)

i would paint the inside of the tacho aswell hamish will look even better!!
yeh mate just go 4 it, i also painted my console white and i had never painted much before, came out really nice, i dont have any pics but just be careful when you are pulling the console out, the clips break quite easily and you will have to blutack them back in lol
or just buy another set from the wreckers and paint those!!

Well personally I didn't use clear coat, aside from the issue of protection, it depends on whether you want a shiny or a matte finish. Clear coat will give you a shiny, reflective type look.
I haven't had any damage to the paint and it's been painted for several months now, IMO if you buy the better quality paint (i.e. NOT the $3 Aussie Export sh*t) then you won't have to worry about damage as much.
The silver paint I used was "Touch up paint" metallic silver, about $17 a can from Supercheap.

I'm doing my console right now.. writing this inbetween coats... i gave it a test on my old centre console and it turned out great no sanding, no primer, no clear coat..
but i did end up sanding the bits i'm paitning now cos there's a couple of dings i needed to smooth out.. but all coming along nicely.. i'll post some pics when i'm done

Hell yeah man! I did that too, was real easy, just a couple screws to get it out then spray on the primer & colour. Paint the upper grille too, will match up a lot better that way. Looks sweet too, my car is blue though so would be a very different effect to yours since yours is silver.
Post some pics when you're done!

Yeah already have taken off the plastic mouldings down the bottom to install the neons, and I have tried to take the front grill bit off as well but had a bit of difficulty doing that since one of the screws is not wanting to come out, just want to keep turning and not coming up.
But what primer do u use for it, can u get it from super cheap and all them stores.

Yeah I got mine from supercheap, same brand as the paint i used. Just be sure you get plastic primer (as opposed to metal).

Looks great, well done. Its a subtle thing, isn't it, but it really sets it apart from stock Magnas.
Nice rims too, but get it lowered ASAP!
Good work

Thanks man it does set it apart from a stock magna dont it, its always the small mods that do the job. as for the lowering of me magna, cant do it otherwise i cant get it down the drive way, and i hate leaving it on the road over night. Might save up about 5K and get airbag suspension :bowrofl: OR NOT

Just a suggestion but painting the plastic button surround (as per attached pic) ties the shifter in to the console nicely. Well i thought so anyway and it only took me a little bit of extra time.

I think it looks good as is because it kind of blends in with the other diles on the console e.g ac controle ect, but you never know i have got paint left over i might give it a shot and see what it looks like. Good thing is when the rents saw it they didnt killl me :bowrofl:
