Which model Magna has the cut outs for splits? I think I vaugely remember the verada's having them, but is that all? I also need it in a dark blue finish, which may be a pain in the ass to find.
If anyone knows which Model 2nd gen had them stock, please let me know.
EDIT:
Actually, any idea what size speakers will fit in the dash, where the stocky cones are? let me know!

they all have the space behind them. but i think you are thinking of the door pods yes? they where in verada and elite.
no aftermarket speakers fit in the dash.

Yes all 2nd gens have the frame cutouts for speakers, but the verada and elite have the door pockets. Any 6/6.5" speaker will fit.
As for the statement in bold, that's bs, any 4 inch speaker will fit :).

eh? My g/f managed to fid some 4" in her dash, I think she said she had to melt behind the dash away with a soldering iron:bowrofl:
screw speakers in the dash! I'm guna take mine out alltogether :D
Should be able to find blue pockets in the TR Elite, and some KR's
I had trouble fitting my cadance 6" (or maybe they are 6.5") behind the front doors, so I just scrwed them into the door trim (behind the speaker pod) was told I'm not the only dogey barsted around here who's done that so it's all good! :D

I think most aftermarket 4 inch speakers require you to cut away some of the plastic in the bottom of the hole as they are to deep to fit in the standard hole.

Theres a small strip of plastic that goes accross the hole and it's ONLY job was to sit the stock speaker on (dunno why). It take about 5 mins to cut it out, it's not needed, and you can then put any speaker you want there :).

Well if I get splits in the doors, I'll chuck some tweeters in the dash and forget the 4".
Cheers for the help, just need to find the damned trimms now!

Wouldnt bother with replacing the 4"s in the dash.
Not only do you waste $50 on some crap speakers but they are pointing straight to the glass.
Pretty useless all round'
Installing the wires into the car for the tweeters is a *****, but pretty easy compared to alot of cars out there

Well I had a look at the doors today.
It seems the little book holders on the sides aren't actually molded into the door itself? Un-screwable perhaps?
If that's the case I might just cut the trim to fit the 6"'s and not bother wasting time looking for verada or elite trims.
Has anyone done this before? The only thing I would be worried about would be the holes left over from the book holders, and possibly wrecking my trim by cutting it incorrectly :S
And yeah Paul, when I looked for the wiring to the door for the side mirrors, in a big fat black tube, I was just sitting there thinking, how da *** am I gonna get the wiring through there, and past all the dash and dash electronic wiring...ah well, we will see!
I'll probably get JBL's again as my 6x9's go hard, so why not.

Yup that's exactly what i did to mine. Removed the map pockets (held in with screws) and cut a hole to fit my speakers. Yeh mine had the holes but you couldn't notice them really.

Hrmmm I wouldn't mind the fabric down the bottom, but it just means re-doing all the doors...arghh

my rada has factory splits .. the tweeters were shagged so i put pioneer ones in their place. sounds great. as for the firing speaker at the glass comment .. you'll find sound reflects and you hear it perfectly. definately recommend getting tweeters on your dash .. chuck em under the speaker grill on the dash and feed the wire down the side of the dash near the door.
My 2 cents

Its not that hard to do, I only put it off because I didn't wanna hack into my door trims incase I damaged them, but afterwards, I was glad I did it. The map pocket just unscrews. I didn't bother covering the holes, but I was planning on getting some 3mm plywood, covering it with black leather to go down the bottom of the door trim (along with covering the other section with black leather) but I never got around to it. Excuse the dodgy wiring, I ran out of time to run the wires through to I did a dodgy job...that lasted for about 6 weeks before i got time to fix it lol. Running the cabling through wasn't that hard at all, its just annoying

Alright what needs to be unscrewed, besides the obvious ones, the only other screw I could see was the hidden on in the door handle?
If someone could do up a pic with all the screws, that would be great. If I figure it out, i'll pick up some 6"s tomorrow.
Btw, what's a good method of cutting the trim?
Also, the 250W HU will be able to support the 2 6x9's and two 6"s yeah? Really don't want to have to put out for an amp as well.
Was it difficult, putting speaker wire through the back of the dash, and through to the door?

Get a service manual, it'll tell ya where all the screws are. Getting the cabling through wasnt that difficult, just took a bit to work out

that HU will support the speakers mate.
If you like your music Forking out $300 for an amp and some wiring is nothing really...The sound coming out of a HU at full blast well you can still yell and be heard.
Connect an amp up and well you wont hear no screaming:)
The screws, well, when i do it in mates' cars' for the first time i keep taking things off and out until the whole thing is loose.
If the trim does not come off dont force it! Undo everything first before taking it off.
Also mate theres a place on Keilor rd in essendon called GL Pro Sound and they have a set of VDO Dayton MPS 1700 6.5" splits up for grabs for $100, Last set ( i know cause i got the last 2 sets lol)
There a great speaker for $100 man
in regards to the 4" speakers in the dash, i recently put a pair of alpine tweeters in mine. It's not a fun job getting them in. Took me 45 mins with a stanley knife to cut out the plastic (so awkward with the glass in the way). Because the stock speakers had magnets 1/4 size of any 4" speakers you'd buy today, it's necessary to cut a fair chunk out of the plastic. Worth the work, but a pain.

I didn't find it that difficult. I found the easiest way to do it was to pull out the black tubing that holds the wiring to the wing mirrors then feed some fencing wire through the hole into the cabin. When you can see the end, attatch the speaker wire to it and pull it back through carefully making sure you don't snag anything. Then I pushed the wire throgh the black tubing into the door again using the fencing wire. Not that hard to do and then there are no visible wires to make the job look messy :).

Alrighty,
I've got my speaker wire, with my JBL 6.5's
Got the trims off ok (***** to put back on though). Couple of problems we've found.
1. The factory holes are to wide and do not meet with the speaker
2. The factory holes, regardless of not meeting are square and won't match.
3. It looks like we will have to drill into the body to get the speakers to fit
4. The JBL "Face" for the speakers is just a tad to large from the trim and will have a bit of air in between it and the trim.
Question;
1. Did anyone use MDF to space out the trim and the speaker etc? If so what size MDF
2. Any good methods for cutting the trim to fit the speaker
3. Is it illegal to drill into the body, same as the parcel shelf?
4. Would it be easier to drill some MDF and secure it to the door, then drill the speaker etc to the MDF and not into the door at all?
Everyone's help is greatly appreciated!

mayday, mayday, hijack in progress :D
Got some pods the other week, anyone know what the stock speaker size was, and what will fit without extensive modification? I got the pocket/pod bit, plus the plastic speaker holders that screw into the metal of the door holes.
Have seen some 5.25's on special that looked decent, but don't know if this is too small. From the sounds of it, 6.25 is too big for the factory setup?

6.5's were too small to meet the factory made holes in my TR Magna, thus having to drill holes into the door, or use MDF as a plate.

dont put em into the actuall door man
Put them into the DOOR CARD.
The card is a good 4-6mm thick so it will support a speaker easy.
If not come round my joint i got tons of 3-5mm MDF laying around to make some bottom pods like my old vynal ones

You think?
If that's the case I might just get some small MDF, and liquid nail it to the actual door, and then position the speaker and drill from there.
Sounds like a lot less hassle that way anyway. I thought about it before, but didn't think it wouldn't support it well enough.

Ah, but the models that came with the speakers had a plastic speaker-holder thing that screwed into the door, the speakers themselves didn't go directly into the door. I obtained said plastic thingies when I got the pods.
Damn I'm articulate.

Starting on it early tomorrow, will advise of outcome! Thanks for the help everyone.

Well all in all, it took a total of 5 hours.
We were going to put MDF backing in the door and secure it with liquid nails, however we wanted to see how we went with the the trim itself first.
The wiring (what a *** nightmare), no chance in hell we were getting it through that black tube and out the other side, without taking the doors off.
Too avoid looking dodgy, we drilled a small hole in the door and the car chassis itself, very close the the black tube, threaded the speaker cable through, covered it with some heatsink, looks smicko! Problem solved.
Unfortunatley 6.5's are a tad to big for the magna doors, therefore the bottom has a bit of a gap, but you can't see it unless you look underneath.
Here's the final product! Thanks again for everyone's help!
EDIT: Forgot to add, sounds so much better with the 6's at the front, the 6x9's were way too bassie

Hey you didnt do too Bad!!!
BUT you can get the wire through!
Tip is;
Take the actuall rubber grommet OUT from the doors so its loose, So from then on that grommet is free and you can almost make it straight enough for it to go in a straight line...
But who cares you did it...Well done!
']??
When i put tweeters in mine i just ran the wire down and through the door?
There were already wires in the dash, just cut the lil connector thingy and rewired..

Ok so you Put 4" in there then?
I thought you said you put tweeters in there suggesting the Woofers were in the door..
yeah, little baby 4" tweeters in the dash. Putting woofers in the doors...just havent had time to look for trims with pods.
the tweeters in the dash actually sound pretty good, get a nice treble from the front and the speakers on my parcel shelf are pretty bassy, so it mixes well.
