Hey Guys,

As you guys may be aware, a few months back, I put a new engine in my TE Magna, as the old one had spun a bottom end bearing.

Now, a few days ago, I was driving home from christmas shopping, and noticed a loud knocking noise under acceleration, then all of a sudden, the car stalled two houses from my drive way, after a few key turns, she started up so I got her home and opened up the bonnet and noticed smoke coming out. I opened up the oil cap, and there was a lot of smoke coming out from there and a burning smell. Since this, I havent touched the car and am awaiting for mechanics to open up again. Can anyone give me an idea to what the problem may be?

While it is usual to have vapour in the crank case, smoke is not usual.

Did you over heat the motor? How old was the second hand motor you got?

Engine has plenty of oil, and coolant levels are fine, engine hasnt overheated at all.

The replacement engine only had 107,000kms on it.
Can anyone suggest where I start to diagnose the problem?

Basically, I didnt realise it was smoking untill I pulled into the drive way and opened the bonnet. But during that time, the needle stayed on half way and didnt appear to be overheating.

That is a strange one, I am concerned about the smoke which indicates blow by and also concerned about the knocking noise as this can be bottom end related, usually big end.

I woudl avoid driving it until you can get it checked, would perhaps suggest you start it, warm up the motor in the drive way and see if the conditions still exists. I assume your oil light is working and did not come on, you have full oil but an oil pump failure or a pressure releif valve failure would cause a lot of damage.
